Same sex heterosexual marriage.. Should it be a thing?

Post by Nom De Plume » Wed Dec 22, 2021 9:51 pm

Imagine two mates... called Bill and Ben who have been best friends for the past 30 years, both divorced. Thing is, one of them, Bill, sadly, is dying having been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. They are both wealthy, but Bill is significantly more wealthy with money hiding off shore, in hidden accounts. He is worried, that because he has no legal partner to speak on his behalf and that state trustees would not act according to his wishes.

He decides to ask Ben to marry him. Initially Ben refuses, because there is no amount of money he could receive that would cause him to have sex with Bill. Bill then points out that you don't need to have sex in the marriage to be married... just committed to each other, which they already are.

Should they get married?

I've never been an advocate of same sex marriage.

I am a very traditional conservative Christian girl at heart.

Soooo as soon as I read about same sex anything anywhere online I just shake my head and try and stay out of it.

I will say this though : I've been married twice. My second marriage is to a lovely and very caring guy. Even so, we had our own respective lawyers draw up documents wrt our assets before we got married and documents specifying our assets after marriage. Our wills also echo the sentiments of these documents (pre nuptial and post nuptial agreements).

Superannuation is a separate matter of course. So we have nominated our beneficiaries after contacting our respective Super Funds.

My advice regarding any relationship is :

1. You have to communicate. If you can't do that then it's going to be a difficult ride. And most probably a short one.

2. You have to protect yourself and each other by keeping things fair and on the level.

Edit: Nom are those 2 friends in your example in a domestic relationship? But one which does not involve sex?
I would rather die than sell my heart and soul to an online forum Anti Christ like you Monk

WHY THEY OUGHT NOT TO GET MARRIED :|
1. Marriage itself is a ridiculous notion. It doesn't prove one’s love and in fact has nothing to do with love in the first place.
2. The homosexual stigma, in this story.

WHY THEY OUGHT TO GET MARRIED 8-)
Marriage offers judicial advantages to both partners whether they be hetero- or homosexual.

whats stopping him from leaving his estate to his mate without marriage? You can leave your money to whoever you want.

Parasites will appear to challenge the will. Their being married means the will is much more likely to be carried out unchanged.

Parasites can challenge whatever they like. As long as the terms of the will are clear there is still no need to get married.
I was told that rather than leave people out of the will completely, if I didn't want to leave anything to someone (for example an ex wife), I just leave them $1. That way it is clear that they were considered and found wanting.

Yeah—say one of your sons turns out to be a total loser. You would still be better off leaving him say $50K rather than trying to cut him right out of your will. That is children.
