property market

Post by Trevor P » Thu Dec 09, 2021 8:05 pm

How are our children supposed to get in with prices as they are?

And disclaimer, I am the problem as well.

My modest 5 bedroom house was valued at 2.2million after only paying 400k 10 years ago. The only additions I have made were an infinity pool and an additional carport for the other cars as it only had 3 car garage.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Stop foreign investment in commercial, agricultural and residential property, especially the Chinese grab for residential properties.

Housing in rural areas is not the Chinese and its still going through the roof.

Speculation is no doubt some of the driver.

Yes.

1. Severely restrict immigration numbers. if 200,000 people (actually, a lot more) people are immigrating into Australia, then of course it is going to put an upward strain on residential housing.

2. Severely restrict the sale of residential properties to non citizens. Most of the present housing bubble is caused entirely by the Chinese political system. If you are a rich Chinese, long experience tells them that they must get their money out of China before some thieving politician or general declares them an enemy of the state, and steals everything that they have got. Rich Chinese have always been targeted by those in power, and Mao's 1949 Chinese revolution is believed to have been the biggest armed robbery in history.

It's a knock on effect.

Really, that's interesting.

Always good to have someone with knowledge about such things on the board.

Lisa and I seem to share a bit in common.

If your home is only worth $2.2 million in today's market in Sydney then that's land value only.

And I wouldn't bother renovating. In fact those renovations you've listed were a waste of time and money.
