My wife and I have been planning our retirement for some time.
I've started to do 4 day weeks, it is really good.

Any comments on retiring?

I retired over 12 months ago, went cold turkey.

Its also 5 years before the grubberment wants me to retire, so I'm living on self funding (no discounts ever).

Its the best move I have ever made.
No more dealing with morons
I can speak my piece without having to worry about anyone else.
Get out of bed when I like, go to bed when I like.
Time to do all the things I have been putting off. (the house looks great, still a few projects to go)

My only lament.
This bloody lockdown
I cant go where I want, when I want.
But surely that cannot last forever.

I still do the occasional quick training or lecturing job, but that's just for some play cash.

Many years experience in underground diesel equipment manufacturing and repair as well as trouble shooting.

Im 63, not interested in full time work any more.
Sure a few bucks every now and then are welcome, but tge daily grind just dont do it for me any more.
I have retired on a few thousand less than i was earning, after tax, and as i pay no tax and have no work associated bills any more, im living most comfortably.
It gets even better in a few years when im eligable for the age pension.
I wont get one, of course, but I will be eligable for a small part pension and all the discounts associated with it.
My financial adviser tells me ill be even better off than I am now.
But the biggest bonus is that I own everything.
And the last few years i have been doing my home over so that it will last me out without any issues.
A couple of new cars and nice new whitegoods, we will be OK.

My poor dad retired with only his own home.
No super, no assets.
He couldnt afford to do up his home, so I spent years fixing it up for him.
New roof, new ceilings in every room, new bathroom, new kitchen, painted throughout.
It was an exhausting couple of years, working every weekend.
But he was happy, and thats the most important matter.

He had us around every weekend doing the place up and loved the company.
I enjoyed being with him and making him happy.

Funny story.
I was putting in a new pipe to the laundry through a brick wall.
I asked him to hold it square while I soldered the pipe outside.
I did this so I could get the pipe as close to the wall as possible without having the elbow sticking out.

After I soldered it I went inside, he had been busy watching me through the window and the pipe was at 30 deg instead of 90.
I had to go outside again and fix it up, with a lot of mumbling.
