Health Minister Greg Hunt denies the government was slow to act on COVID vaccination procurement despite correspondence showing urgent appeals from Pfizer in mid-2020 to meet him were put off for more than a month, and weeks after the US and UK signed massive deals.

Emails from June and early July last year, obtained by Labor under the Freedom of Information Act, show the pharmaceutical giant eager to meet the minister "at the earliest opportunity", but the Department of Health instead offered the company a meeting with a first assistant secretary.

Pfizer made clear it had the "potential to supply millions of vaccine" which could "be deployed at unprecedented speed" to prevent Infections.

Australia signed the first contract with Pfizer for 10 million doses Australia in November. The the first Pfizer doses arrived mid-February 2021. Nations such as the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom signed multi-million dose deals with Pfizer in July.

The emails show the offer was passed onto the department from Mr Hunt's office as a way of introduction. It was not until August 4 that anyone from Mr Hunt's office formally met the company over COVID vaccinations.

The Health Minister's office didn't meet Pfizer executives to negotiate a vaccine purchase until a fortnight after the USA and UK had already signed supply deals for COVID-19 vaccines, despite the pharmaceutical giant repeatedly advising the federal government to show urgency.
Key points:

The Health Minister's office first met with Pfizer weeks after the US and UK signed deals
Pfizer said it could offer millions of doses by the end of 2020
The company urged the government to move quickly, as other countries rushed to make deals

Labor has claimed newly surfaced documents suggest Pfizer initiated contact with the government on June 26 last year to request a meeting, warning four days later that the "vaccine development landscape is moving swiftly", including with other nations.

The company offered to make senior members of its "global leadership team available" for the discussion if the Health Minister "and/or departmental leadership" could be involved.

"I am requesting this meeting occur at the earliest opportunity," a Pfizer executive told the Health Department in a June 30 email, obtained by Labor under Freedom of Information laws.

"We have the potential to supply millions of vaccine doses by the end of 2020," the company wrote.

ScoMo has been caught red handed -
sitting on his arse -
playing the fiddle while Australia burned.

Noone wanted it.

Mr Morrison had acted so rapidly and effectively noone wanted a covid vaccine.
He had performed too well is his only flaw.

He also went very hard on Az, which actually has had a bit of a hatchet job done on it.

ScoMo has now been caught with his pants down -
I don't know how he'll get out of this scandal.
We could have been out of lockdowns ages ago
if he would have done his job properly.

The cost of ScoMo's failure is immeasurable -
15 million people under house arrest - many people have died -
many people dreadfully ill -
some will be sick for the rest of their shortened lives after organ damage.
10s of 1000s of businesses have collapsed with
their owners losing their life savings -
suicides rocketing up -
education wrecked 2 years in a row for students -
with lifelong consequences -
the economy has lost 100s of $billions.

Surely that's resignation material?
