All Victorians aged 16 to 39 will be eligible for the Pfizer vaccine at state-run hubs from tomorrow, as the state tries to bring its Delta outbreak under control.
Key points:
Victoria recorded 50 new local cases on Monday, the bulk of whom were not in quarantine
It is the fifth consecutive day where the majority of new cases were in the community while infectious
There are now more than 660 exposure sites across Melbourne and Shepparton
Victoria recorded 50 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases on Monday, only 11 of whom were in quarantine during their infectious period.
Contact tracers have so far linked 40 of the new cases back to existing outbreaks.
The state processed 48,424 test results on Monday, when 29,810 doses of vaccine were delivered at state-run sites.
There are now more than 660 exposure sites listed across Victoria, including schools in Shepparton and Broadmeadows.
Victorian authorities still believe the state's outbreak can be brought under control, but are concerned by a growing number of mystery cases.

Re: Melbourne 6th lockdown to start tonight.
My Covid prediction for Australia.
It will be like India.
people will be trying to get oxygen bottles for
their sick family members who are at home.
Homes will be the new hospitals.
I just hope that the Govt. has 10s of 1000s
of oxygen bottles and medication ready?

Victoria records 45 new local COVID-19 cases,
workers flying in to bolster hospital network

Victoria will fly in 350 medical staff from overseas to ease the pressure on its weary health system, as doctors warn hospital staffing plans are urgently needed to prepare for the next phase of the pandemic.
Key points:
The staff will begin work across 30 health services by October
The Australian Medical Association has warned furloughing dozens of staff after each hospital exposure is not sustainable
Victoria has recorded 45 new local cases, the majority of whom were in the community while infectious
The pandemic has put immense strain on health systems around the world and hundreds of Victorian staff have been furloughed after COVID-19 exposure at key hospitals, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital and in Shepparton.
Australia relies on overseas doctors to help run the system, but with fewer flights into Australia and a greater need for medical assistance overseas, there has been a decrease in arrivals.
Doctors and experts are now calling for better planning to manage hospital staffing once lockdowns end and the virus is allowed to circulate more readily in the community.
Medical workers remain exempt from most bans and between March 20 last year and July 31 this year, 2,096 exemptions were approved for medical workers travelling to Australia.
Victoria has begun recruiting overseas professionals to come into the country and begin work across 30 health services by October.
Ninety per cent of the arrivals will be doctors, the state government says, the remainder are specialist nurses or midwives.
The government says many are resident hospital medical officers who will meet staffing demands in emergency departments and other critical areas.

Texans and Floridians are welcome to apply as they are not needed there.

Victoria records 79 local COVID-19 cases
as outbreak spreads to Echuca
Posted 9m ago

Victoria has recorded 79 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases.
Contact tracers have linked 53 of the new cases to existing outbreaks.
Victoria processed 50,535 test results on Thursday, when 33,611 doses of vaccine were delivered at state-run sites.
Health authorities said further information on how many of the new cases were in isolation will be released later this morning.
An aged care home in northern Victoria is in lockdown after a fully vaccinated staff member tested positive to coronavirus.
Echuca Community for the Aged said in a statement the Wharparilla Lodge worker was well when they last completed a shift on Friday last week.
There are more than 860 exposure sites across the state, with new sites listed in northern Victoria at Echuca, Kyabram and Mooroopna.
Emergency Management Victoria is overseeing the state's crisis response in Shepparton, where thousands of quarantined residents are struggling to access food and medication due to the volume of workers forced into quarantine.

Victoria records 73 COVID cases,
as government
awaits lockdown advice from Chief Health Officer

Victoria has recorded 73 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases, 52 of which have been linked to existing outbreaks.
The state processed 41,395 test results on Sunday and delivered 26,702 vaccine doses at its state-run sites.
Health authorities say they will provide details later about how many of the new cases were in the community while infectious.
On Sunday, Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed the state's lockdown would not lift later this week.
He said his government was yet to receive advice from Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton on the next stage of restrictions.
University of Melbourne epidemiologist Tony Blakely, whose modelling helped Victoria ease out of its major 2020 lockdown, last week suggested the state consider a "soft lockdown" to bridge its way to higher vaccination rates.
Professor Blakely said if driving the outbreak back down became unrealistic, easing some minor restrictions could make the next few months more sustainable for a community wearied by lockdown.
The Premier on Sunday said he believed the state still had a chance to drive the outbreak down to "very low numbers and then be able to ease" in the weeks ahead.
More to come.
