New South Wales has recorded 262 new coronavirus cases in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

It’s the highest daily number in NSW since the start of the pandemic.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said another five people have died – three aged in their 60s, one in their 70s and one in their 80s.

Four were unvaccinated, and one had one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The Premier said the state’s Hunter and Upper Hunter regions would be placed into a COVID-19 lockdown from 5:00pm today after several cases were detected in the area.

About 107,000 people came forward for testing during the last 24 hours.

NSW recorded 291 new locally acquired COVID-19 infections in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday — the highest daily number in the state during the pandemic.

There were 109,547 tests carried out in the reporting period.

A woman in her 60s, who was not vaccinated, died after contracting the virus at Liverpool Hospital.

She is the state's 79th COVID-19 fatality since the beginning of the pandemic and the 22nd death linked to the latest Delta outbreak.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she was expecting case numbers to increase in the coming days.

"I am expecting higher case numbers in the few days and they just wanted want to be prepared for that," she said.

The Premier flagged rising cases in the Canterbury-Bankstown local government area, where policing will now be increased.

"We are seeing too many people frequent certain shopping areas and perhaps not doing the right thing, so police will be more present in the Canterbury-Bankstown local area to ensure compliance and we have to make sure that happens," she said

I have had both shots with zero side effects.

I gather there is some risk of complications from the other one as well so who knows
