Advise Australians that the quarantine act has been enacted
Temporarily closed all boarders to everyone, including citizens...
I would repurpose the old refugee camps as quarantine camps.
I would repurpose former military buildings as a quarantine facility.
Each facility would have a covid hospital attached.
Medical staff would be shipped to each facility on a 4 week rotation.
Danger money would be paid to all medical and cleaning staff that are entailed.
Once done, I would start bringing back citizens from o/seas to quarantine which would last for 3 weeks, with the last week of quarantine being isolated from others in quarantine.
Meanwhile, because it takes about 3.5 years for a pandemic to run its course, I would...
Shutdown all building and construction temporarily and use the workers to build quarantine facilities, one for each state and NT, using crown land (somewhere with road access in whoop whoop) with the size being commiserate to each states population.
I would have purchased far more vaccine than we need with the view to vaccinating small local nations... i.e. PNG.
I would have tasked the CSIRO, and other state medical research facilities to find an existing drug that could be repurposed to assist health workers save lives.
On the matter of fruit and veg pickers, farmers would be advised that they will have the cost of housing workers in suitable and clean facilities, so that the unemployed can do what the temp visa peeps once did.
Anyone deemed suitable that cannot prove a physical disability but refuses to pick fruit, will have their payments quarantined and managed by the state.
On the matter of tourism... We can be confident that Aussies would travel locally whilst the world turn to shit. After all, there would be no lockdowns to worry about!
