NSW records 141 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths

A woman aged in her 30s is one of two new COVID-19 deaths recorded in NSW with the state confirming 141 new locally acquired cases.

A woman in her late 30s from the Sydney CBD who had no pre-existing conditions died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital overnight and a woman in her 70s from south-west Sydney died at Campbelltown Hospital.

Thirty-eight of the new cases were in the community while infectious and a further 24 cases were in the community for part of their infectious period.

NSW Health said 54 cases remained unlinked to known cases.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said yesterday's anti-lockdown protest in Sydney's CBD "broke her heart".

"Millions and millions of people across our state are doing the right thing, and it just broke my heart that people had such a disregard for their fellow citizens," she said.

"Yesterday could have been a setback, only time will tell."

Ms Berejiklian said the whole state was frustrated about the lockdown and everyone has had to make sacrifices but that does not justify the "disgusting" demonstration yesterday.

She said anyone who feels they have "slipped through the cracks" should reach out to ServiceNSW as her government "fought hard" for the personal and business financial support available.

She said her government was still pushing for more financial relief from the federal government.

"We are having conversations with the federal government on an ongoing basis, let me assure you of that."

NSW Health's Jeremy McAnulty said most of the cases were still in the five local government areas (LGAs) of Fairfield (34 cases), Canterbury-Bankstown (30), Cumberland (24), Blacktown (19) and Liverpool (12).

An outbreak linked to a gathering of 50 grieving family members in Pendle Hill has now grown to 28 cases.

"We have been working with community leaders in that area to make sure that people in that gathering are isolated and getting tested," Dr McAnulty said.

More than 102,000 people were tested which is a new state record.

There are currently 141 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 43 people in intensive care, 18 of whom require ventilation.

Of the 43 people in intensive care, 42 have not been vaccinated.

More to come.

NSW’s COVID-19 lockdown is being extended, and overhauled, after 177 new infections were announced today – a record in the current outbreak.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian blamed low vaccination rates as she announced the current stay-at-home orders affecting Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour would be extended for four weeks, until 12:01am on Saturday, August 28.

But there will be changes, including:

A 10 kilometre restriction for shopping
A pathway for Year 12 students to return to classrooms from August 16
Construction re-opening in some settings
A support bubble for single people living alone
A new financial support package for businesses and individuals

The local government areas (LGAs) of Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges River have also joined a growing list of areas subjected to an Authorised Workers Order.

Golly gob Ashleigh Gillen on Sky is telling us that Year 12 kids are being OFFERED
the jab....
WRONG....
ITS FKN MANDATORY....
The useless bitch cant even get that right.....
YEs...
Sydney is doomed....
Because of the incompetent politicians and the lying media shills
who support the grubberment...
HM Prison Australia is now on bread and water... :o :o :o
Gladys cant even get her press release correct...
One minute its Y12 kids getting the illegal mandatory jab
and then its all 16 17 and 18 yo kids...(in 8 Sydney LGAs)
Is it one....or is it the other...
Doesnt matter I suppose ...
A compulsory mandated jab for the right to go to school is illegal...

I've been avoiding the news and haven't heard about the kids. No child should be forced to have this jab.

Children have to be jabbed for parents to receive the Family
Tax Benefit....
This is an illegal demand as the Australian Constitution prohibits it...
Gladys has stated that Y12 kids have to be jabbed if they want to return
to face to face schooling on 12.8.2021...
This applies to all 16-17-18 yo kids in the 8 LGAs in Sydney...
This is an illegal, coerced jab...
A mandated jab in disguise...
And the excuse from Gladys is that she doesnt want the kids
bringing home the virus to their parents and family...
Totally illegal...
AND theyre bludging Pfizer from regional NSW to do it....
Is that divisive or is that divisive... :rofl
