Agreed. Nor do we like seeing it happen in our Western Nation that is lil' ol' Oz... nor do the Europeans like seeing it. So clearly your concern is about halting the demise, which is more than financial and my question to you is; How? How can we slow or halt this demise?

I would argue that we must first understand it if we are to act with solutions.

Because the Western Civilization is a mega civilization led by the USA. If they fall, we fall. If they succeed, we succeed.

Each civilization collapses differently JM. Take for example the Catholic Civilization of Europe. It's collapse was triggered by their inability to consistently control information and knowledge as they had done previously... hence the renaissance.
