How National Cabinet wants to ditch lockdowns and open borders as COVID vaccination rates rise

National Cabinet has agreed to a four-stage plan
that would see Australia transform into a vaccinated nation that manages COVID-19 with few restrictions.

The goal, as Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, is for Australia to begin treating COVID-19 "like the flu".

It would mean governments shift from focusing on case numbers to focusing on rates of hospitalisation and death as Australians learn to live with low rates of mild illness in the community.

To get to a point beyond lockdowns and border closures, Australians will need to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated, but leaders are yet to agree how many jabs it will take to open up.

Here's what we know about the early draft of the plan.

Meanwhile more than 6,000 people are still flying in each week. More than half into NSW. I have no idea where most of the people are coming from but the airport pics they showed on the news implied India for a lot of them.

it's all bullshit, spin and lies.
If he won't set dates it's worthless talk.

I expect my 2nd shot of AstraZeneca in 3 months - the end of September 2021.

I expect another booster within one year to cope with
the new mutants that will come out.
I expect the fight will go on forever in our lifetimes.
It will mean a booster every year from now on.
I am hoping life will get back to normal mid 2022
so that we can travel freely in the world again.
I want to go overseas and not have to fear that I'll be locked out of Australia.

You're right but it was a humbling experience today
to stand in a line of 1000 people and get my AstraZeneca jab.
Everyone was obviously scared of dying from Covid.
It's a new normal - we have to get used to it.
Our vax rate is one of the lowest in the world.

I know all about the bad side of vaccines but we don't have any other choice -
it's a war and some of us will die just like any other war.

No insurance company wants to touch it.
