But if the NSA has the source code of Win7 or Win 10 etc.
what's there to stop them from sending a target victim a fake update file
which opens their computer up to being spied on?
Some say they could remotely read very file on your hard disk
and you'd never know about it.

If you so concerned, why are you using an Old OS that has no security updates anymore. You should move to Linux.

I would be more worried about using and old OS.

Man, they will spy on us if they want. Today most people provide so much information in public, they don't need to do much to find out about most of us.

if you are doing things that would create interest in you from the gov, you should go dark and build your own systems where you have all the source code, e.g. opensource. Then you have control. Otherwise, it is not worth worrying about.

Support for Windows 7 is discontinued, but the software will continue to function. After January 14, 2020, if your computer is running Windows 7, it will no longer receive security updates.

I would not want to be using Win7 these days without security updates. If you get hacked, it will be your fault not Micro$oft's.

Time to move to Win 11 when it comes out. Time to buy a new machine as well.

As always. You win the bet. All software has an end of life support. You have 4 more years. But if you have 10, just upgrade when it comes out, I believe it is free. So no impact really.

What makes that information particularly odd is that the document mentions all Windows 10 releases as a single OS (from the initial release on July 29, 2015, until the latest LTSC.)

You know this deprecation of older processors was slated for Win10 but never made it to the OS. This has been planned for a long time.

So....perhaps somebody can straighten me out here. From most things I've read Dell and Microsoft made the decision to not support some of the older processors for Windows 10. Indeed when I look at compatibility charts it shows my Dell Precision 4600 with the Core i7-2860QM is on the list of unsupported processors, but...I have also read that early Windows 10 builds supported the older processors[.....]

Some Unix was in some OSs, sure. Not sure now tho, esp with the new RISC chip machines.

Only Unix is Unix, it's not in some OSes. There are variations of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix Unix but Linux is not Unix it was started as a project to create a small unix-like Kernel after the fashion of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minix Minix. Yes Linux was/is POSIX compliant but it is not Unix, it's Unix-like. OSX used the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_ ... stribution BSD kernel and is as such built on a Unix kernel.
