Jules very own pacific solution not looking too good

The Law Council of Australia has warned the Federal Government's plan to process asylum seekers in East Timor will be a legal minefield.

Yesterday Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced that she was in talks with East Timor, the UN and New Zealand to send asylum seekers who arrive in Australia by boat to East Timor for processing.

President Glenn Ferguson says the Law Council is pleased the processing of Sri Lankan asylum seekers will resume, but he says there needs to be a fair process for those seeking refuge in Australia.

Mr Ferguson says the legal status of asylum seekers on Christmas Island is straightforward because it is under Australian control, but that will not be the case for people sent to East Timor.

"It raises a whole range of issues. There's the legalities of the processing and they are things that will no doubt be examined in detail," he said.

"I don't think that's the solution... the solution needs to be that we enact a policy that is fair for everyone and we abide by our obligations and Australia always has prided itself that we are a good international citizen."

The Federal Government is being urged to provide details about what level of legal advice will be available to asylum seekers under its new policy.

Just like their botched super tax, they haven't bothered to consult- don't they ever learn from their mistakes?

Fretilin MP Jose Teixeira said his party did not support the proposal, adding that it would be unfair to put such pressure on the emerging island nation.

"We can say in principle that any form of a processing centre as have been discussed is not acceptable to Timor Leste," he said.

"It's an unfair burden to put on us as an emerging society, post-conflict, as a society that has a number of social and economic pressures on it. It's unfair to put that additional pressure on here."

Another boat, another media manipulation that would make Kevin and his band of boys blush

A boat carrying 43 suspected asylum seekers was intercepted west of the Ashmore Islands late on Tuesday.

A media release about the interception was issued by the government just after 7pm on Wednesday.
During Wednesday, Ms Gillard travelled to Darwin with other Labor MPs to spruik her new policy on asylum seekers and travel on a border protection vessel.

Opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison asked why news of the latest boat arrival was not released until after Ms Gillard had done her media interviews for the day.

"These facts were buried for at least 24 hours so as not to spoil her prefabricated story for tonight's TV news," Mr Morrison said in a statement.

"Julia Gillard's attempt to manipulate the media today would make even Kevin Rudd blush."

I've got a great idea. Why don't we just send people like Jovial Monk to East Timor and make them stay there for 5 years so that they can realise what a great place Australia is. These leftie migrants haven't a clue what it is like to live in poverty. Send all the Green voters there too. Let them live on roots, shoots and water for a while and see how they handle the climate.

I'd take 5 tamil tigers and 5 al-qaeda illegal immigrants for the opportunity to trade that fluffy bunny to one of the countries that he wants us to become. At least there he would be shot in the back of the head and left in a ditch somewhere where the poor local dogs can be poisoned on his bloated filthy corpse

He is far more damaging to Australia

Looks like Ghoulia has taken up exactly where Kev left off

http://www.theage.com.au/national/gilla ... 100nx.html
In Jakarta, officials expressed surprise that Ms Gillard had not honoured a promise by Mr Rudd in March to work with Indonesia before any significant changes to asylum-seeker policy.
A pinched policy on the run making Australia a laughing stock with its neighbours...yet the leftards were crowing about this and whining about Howards pacific solution?

How shallow can the left go?

1. It isn’t a Pacific (non)Solution

2. I am sure TL politicians are eager to extract a good price from Australia. I would.

hahaha
1. This is worse than the pacific solution by a mile but still an idea Liebor pinched while bitching long and hard about it

2. Of course you would. Youre a Liebor supporter. Anything to throw more money down the drain while downgrading our status with our neighbours

3. I thought you had me on ignore Monkyboy? Were you lying then or are you lying now?

Very strange Gillard didn't even consult with those in East Timor who are in power

Similar to the US president announcing all illegals from Mexico will be sent to Australia while their status is determined

Julia is being told what to do by the Unions. What would they know about diplomacy?
