12 new NSW COVID cases, masks mandatory for greater Sydney
Five new COVID-19 cases have been reported in today's official NSW count, however, there are another seven cases that missed the 8pm deadline and will be included in tomorrow's numbers.
Two of today's five recorded cases were reported yesterday.
All but two of the 12 cases were in isolation and all but one are linked to existing cases.
One of the cases that was not in isolation is a student from St Charles Catholic Primary School at Waverly, in Sydney.
The two reported yesterday included a women in her 50s from Sydney's northern suburbs, who is a close contact of a previously reported case and has been in isolation. The other case was a man in his 30s from Sydney's eastern suburbs, who is a close contact of a previously reported case and has been in isolation.
The three new cases reported to 8pm are:
a woman in her 60s from the Illawarra, who is a close contact of a previously reported case and has been in isolation.
a woman in her 40s from Sydney's northern suburbs, who is a close contact of a previously reported case and has been in isolation.
a woman in her 20s from the eastern suburbs, who is linked to the Bondi cluster.
The seven cases reported after 8pm are:
Six are household contacts of previous cases who have been in isolation.
One is a child who attends primary school in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
There is now 21 new cases linked to the Bondi cluster.
Due to the cases, the NSW mask wearing provision has been extended for another week, and includes all of greater Sydney, excluding the NSW Central Coast and the Hunter region.
This means it is a requirement for everybody to wear a mask in a public indoor space in greater Sydney, the only exception being if you are eating or drinking and it comes into affect from 4pm today.
"It is only when you are eating or drinking indoors at a venue that you can't or shouldn't wear a mask. In every other circumstance, if you live or are in Sydney, you must wear a mask for another week beyond Wednesday midnight," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
"Additionally, these two local government areas - Wollongong and Shellharbour - which had compulsory public transport for that period will also be required to have the mask wearing indoors, in the same way we have asked all of Sydney to do."
