For 10 points Gavin who was the incompetent Minister of Health that capped medical places at uni thus necessitating the use of overseas trained doctors and who was the even more incompetent Minister of Immigration who let Dr Patel in to practice medicine?
No, Gavin, it wasn't errrrr the “fucking labor government” thank you it was Tony Abbott and Kevin Andrews.
Waste of human life.
for minus 10 points Jovial fluffy bunny, when was abbott health minister? and to lose the game, when were the cuts in medical places first announced?
(do u need a clue - the first answer is nearly a decade after the cuts were announced and the second answer is before the howard government was elected)

Then we come to the Iraq war where Howard spent out taxpayers money helping to kill, maim, pauperise and dispossess millions of Iraqis!
I repeat: the Howard government probably wasted about a trillion dollars and several human lives making decisions that could have easily been delayed for a while to give proper consideration, conduct some research etc etc.
The relatively trivial waste associated with the BER is mainly due to the need to get it up and running ASAP to protect jobs and protect jobs it has! Residential building has pretty much collapsed (and the bottom fallen out of the real estate market) and it is still only the BER keeping the building trade solvent.
I rest my case.

when was abbott health minister?
Abbott was elected to the Australian House of Representatives for the Division of Warringah at a by-election in March 1994 following the resignation of Michael MacKellar. He served as the parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (1996–98), Minister for Employment Services (1998–2001), Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and Small Business (2001), Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations (2001–03) and Minister for Health and Ageing from 2003 to November 2007. From late 2001 to November 2007 he was also Manager of Government Business in the House of Representatives.[13]
After the Coalition lost government in 2007 and he lost his health portfolio, in opposition Abbott was re-elected to the seat of Warringah with a 1.79% swing toward the Labor Party

Despite the ignoramus Monk trying to distract from the fact that BER is a colossal waste of money, it remains so.
Even he knows it is true- why else would he try and bring up old history to try and justify it?
Any fool can try that- you could just as easily revisit the waste from Hawke/Keating and Whitless to show how Labor govts can't manage an economy. There are so few times Labor have been in power that the list of incumbency is short but the fuckups are long

He makes a fine point IQ. He is telling us all, in no uncertain terms, that govt and their public servants are not as good as corporates when it comes to efficient spending. The red tape is a killer no matter which political party has power.

wiki:
Moral equivalence is a term used in political debate, usually to criticize any denial that a moral hierarchy can be assessed of two sides in a conflict, or in the actions or tactics of two sides. The term originates from a 1906 address by William James entitled The Moral Equivalent of War, subsequently published in essay form in 1910.
That is not what I am arguing you kindergarten dropout! I am showing that the Howard/Costello government, despite being able to take time and properly consider decisions wasted a trillion dollars and cost lives while the BER which had to be rolled out at breakneck speed to protect jobs and confidence nevertheless wasted very little. Not surprised you didn't grasp that because your intelligence is almost non-existent!
Moral equivalence doesn't come into it!

8 deaths, abuse and negligence rife due to Coalition policy.
Seems they were not responsible for the negligence perpetrated by private operators. The fly by nighter, aspirational millionaires let loose in the aged care sector.
