We are hoping one day to be able to live on Mars indefinitely.
This will mean that we are not a single planet being.
If the Earth is destroyed life could continue on Mars.

We can discover if microbial life has ever existed on Mars for a start. Life has more than likely not been unique to planet Earth. There's evidence of water there and all of this will ultimately benefit humans on Earth.

It also gives us an insight into how shifts in climate can fundamentally alter planets and whether life has ever been abundant.

It won't affect you in your lifetime but it will benefit your ancestors. We need to look outside our own immediate life time. I think it's an awesome thing.

We hope to terraform Mars so that one day
it will have a breathable atmosphere.
