Fortified Chinese Consulate in Adelaide

Post by Black Orchid » Mon Mar 01, 2021 7:45 pm

Fortified Chinese Consulate in Adelaide.

The Chinese Consulate in the Adelaide Eastern suburb of Joslin, the sprawling 5600 square metre site, valued at around $10 million was bought by Beijing for an undisclosed sum four years ago. Security has been beefed up to include scores of security cameras, mobile phone transponders, and heavy gates.

Knocking down fences, CCTV cameras everywhere pointing into neighbour's yards and sending out drones. 2:17 min video at link.

We coordinate with our neighbors if we are going to do fence work, but most large corporations have this kind of security. Many Americans have camera systems outside their homes. Anyone knocking down my fence unannounced will have the police called on them if they are lucky.

We have a saying in Texas. Good fences make good neighbors.

People often label China as a Security state, when in fact, the USA has more Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras per capita. Regarding the number of cameras per person, the United States remains a clear leader in the world.

Sorry Tex. I think what you really mean is that good cameras make good neighbors.

Cameras help also. If I lived near the Chinese Consulate, I would monitor them back with video cameras and encourage my neighbors to do the same.

My parents have a good camera system and have assisted the police with capturing several criminals, including some idiots who drove all over Dallas suburbs shooting out car windows with a pellet pistol. The footage on the local news caused someone to identify them and they were busted and sent to prison.

That's all well and good for you and Americans in general, given that the US have more cctv's per 100 people, than anyone else in the world... even more than China! You are used to having your every public movement watched... but we are not accustomed to it, which is why BO has, quite rightly, raised it as a forum discussion.
Country # of CCTV Cameras # of People # of CCTV Cameras per 100 People
United States 50 000 000 327,167,430 15.28
China 200 000 000 1,392,730,000 14.36

I have no problem with privately owned cameras to protect individuals. I am against government using cameras to spy on and manipulate the public.
