I purchased an ISUZU MUX based on the reliability of the 3.0 litre diesel.

It is a little known fact tgat ISUZU manufacture engines for many vehicles and have a good rep.

My wife has a SUZUKI IGNIS 1.2 litre engine, amazing little beast.
We get around 5.4 L/100k normal driving and down to 5.1 on a trip.
It's a little harsh and noisy on the freeway, but will sit on 110 all day up and down hill even with the aircon going.
I'm very pleased with the beast.

My run around/ play car ( something for me to play with in my retirement) is a 1999 Toyota echo.
Nearly 300000k on the clock.
I get 5.8L/100k when freeway driving and 6.6 general driving.
Everything works , even if it rattles a bit, and the aircon often requires the heater going as it gets a little chilly.

My last car was a NISSAN X Trail, exchanged it for the MUX at over 300000k, but it was running great, just was lacking in tow weight.

I have had Holden, Ford's, Hondas, and all have had their ups and downs.
I generally keep a car for 300000k before getting rid of it and upgrading.
But my old VB crumbledore hit nearly 400000k.
It was an exercise in keeping it running, but it never really let us down when we needed it.

Most of my kilometres are freeway ( probably why they last so long) and I service them myself, unless under warranty.

My biggest single year was 280000 and my least last year with only 40000.

If you look after the vehicles, don't thrash them too hard and fix things before they get bad, any car can last for a very long time

great posting, thanks.

amazing mileage you have done.
I read somewhere most vehicles that do huge miles are serviced by their owner.
I do the simple stuff, give it to a mechanic every few years for anything else.

In my work, I travelled all over Australia to many mine sights and manufacturing industries.

Much was by plane, but a great deal was done by car.

On the road a fair bit most time several hundred k in a day.

But imagine the truck drivers, my uncle would clock up 500000 every year or so.
Completely stripped his engines every couple of years to rebuild them.
Amazing man.

It was almost a pleasant change when the company started sending me overseas......for a while.

Then it was a major chore living out of a suitcase and waking up in a different country every few days or weeks.

Very impressive.
I've travelled a bit for work, wasn't very appealing

I've rented 1000 cars all over the US, but not much in the last 10 years. I let the young guys travel now.
