UK to barricade "non essential" supermarket aisles

The head of the UK’s oldest conservative think tank has condemned government orders for supermarkets to barricade aisles containing ‘non-essential’ items during England’s lockdown, saying Boris Johnson’s administration should “leave it to the public to decide what they want and need to buy”.

The Conservative national government has quietly instructed supermarkets to close departments selling so-called “non-essential” items during England’s second lockdown, with media reporting in recent days citizens’ anger at not being to buy items including kettles, socks, and baby clothes.

I was telling my daughter about it and she said that the same thing happened in their last lock-down. A friend of hers, living in the UK was complaining that she couldn't get an umbrella because they were in the blocked isle.

Absolutely ridiculous.

we dont know just how bad this new virus is... basically the same thing happened here.. the only shops OPEN were essential ..as far as i know supermarkets in this country dont allow you to try on clothes in the store.....but thats what people do if the shop sells a variety .. then they put it back on the rack for the next person to try on...perhaps you have never seen the mixture of cultures in London especially.... I remember years ago in Kmart here when it also sold food.... in one aisle this lady of foreign extract had opened a jar of pickles and stuck her finger in for a taste... I walked out...later I felt terrible because I didnt tell someone..but I got such a shock.....so god knows what goes on in England now they have just about every kind with all the same freedoms ... do they wash their hands or use hand sanitisers even....no one would really know....this way people will be more inclined to stay home than ever..

I dont think the same happened here... We were still able to access all the isles, at least that was the case at my woolies. I went to Aldi's too, during lockdown and they were still aloud to sell variety items... so I think that they have it harder than Melb did.

its because of the new mutation nom... and I heard where it has morphed into yet another mutation.....tougher than the original.....not sure how the health dept is coping or if more people are dying....and worse suffering.......they have pushed the panic buttons because I would think even the scientist dont know where this is heading...........we can only hope it doesnt arrive here....keep an eye open for it to appear on the continent

at the end of the day I feel a few shops closing or even a few aislse...is not the end of the world.... a small price to pay if it stops the bloody thing.
