I really miss living on acres.

I made some preelection preps today. I stocked up on non perishable items today. I bought 80-100 cans of veggies, paper goods, bottled water, and pet food. I already have plenty of guns and ammo. Maybe I'm nuts, but I think something will happen after the results of this election are known no matter who wins. If Trump wins, there will be riots and looting and I'll want to stay home. If Biden wins, the stock market will crash and there will be panic buying. I'm prepping for either outcome. If nothing happens, then I will be spending less on groceries in the near future. I have dunny paper to last about a year - the good stuff. (Charmin Strong - mega rolls)

I should have bought some bulk hand sanitizer while the market is still saturated. It makes great fire starter.

Not lately. I don't have 20 years of freeze dried food and an underground bunker, but it doesn't hurt to have a month or two of supplies. 2020 has already taught us that.

I have a vege garden , A hundred kgs of maize and wheat and plenty animals to eat I also like to have a 25kg bag of flour on hand , 500 rounds of 12g and 200 of 44mag , so when the boogaloo hits town, Im prepared lol

I don't have a garden and the only animals I have to eat are chickens and ducks or eggs. I have several thousands of rounds between .22lr, 9mm, .380, 12ga, and .556 and I live with 3 other people who know how to use them. I'd really like to buy some acreage and build a place like Outlaw Yogi. I currently only live on 1 acre.

Solar power, rainwater collection, tractor, garden, fruit and nut trees, livestock, and maybe even some bees. I'd like to be able to support myself as much as possible after I retire and make my retirement savings last longer than I do. I know a man who is almost 90 and still sells vegetables from his garden. My father in law kept a large garden until he was 85 and dementia took over. I can get an agricultural exemption by raising livestock or bees on land 5 acres or larger. This lowers taxes considerably.

Sounds like you are good to go Tex, But come next week when Trump is no longer in power I think your taxes are going to skyrocket,,

Its interesting your comments on acreage stock and taxes, I have 13 acres here, within eye sight of central Auckland, the largest city in NZ , and pay more property tax because of it , The system here feels that if you are raising stock you should be hammered a little harder for it, I have bees , sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks and cows , New Zealand is one of the least protected agricultural and horticultural economies in the world ,

It would be my worst nightmare, I didn't think labour would get a clean sweep in NZ ,We had a large early vote like the States, It favoured the left. My feeling is that people want a big tax and spend president , all I can add is, be careful what the fuck you wish for,,

IF it's a clean election Trump will win in a landslide. So many fraudulent ballots being uncovered already but I wonder how many will also go through.

Its a double edged sword, Depending on what you do on the property that is , they easiest way is to get some horses on to graze and tell the owners its all care and no responsibility, all you guaranty is that you will make sure they have water and will let them know if their horse looks unwell , And as a red blooded male it could be an added bonus if one of the owners is a hottie lol

Then you can just lay back and enjoy the solitude, Most lifestyle property owners in NZ don't last more than 3 years on their land , we have been here for 17 , we traded up from a 615 sqm's in central Auckland to 53,000 sqm's in the bad lands, In reality it is only 15 klm's as the crow flies, Both of my siblings own a bit of dirt, my brother a few acres and my sisters 250 acres. I swapped acres with sqm's because I was to slack to do the conversion

I had my own horses when I was a few hours up north on 300 acres but when we moved back to Sydney on to 5 acres the land was mostly rocks, trees and dirt lol.

My experience with horses is that they cost a fortune to keep, feed ,Farriers, vets etc, sheep are cheap, they get sick, you shoot them

Depends how anal people are about it I guess. Don't need a farrier unless their hooves get cracked and split. Mine weren't shod and the ground was soft and I wormed them myself just like a cat or a dog except with a big syringe. We had 5 acres cleared with plenty of grass and I supplemented that with a bit of hay in the evenings. Back then it was $5 a bale.

Depends on the land they are on I would assume.

Sheep you have to shear and goats are a pain in the butt lol.

Shearing is cheap, But there is always the problem when your shearer moves on, For a small holding the best way forward is to go for a self shedding breed you just need to make sure you only bring pure breeds into your flock , and in regards to goats, of the 4 goats I have had on the property I shot 3 of them the 4th evaporated lol

Good hay here will cost you around 30 odd dollars a bale
