A little birdie told me that huge numbers of Qld Police would resign on the spot
if they were instructed to act in the same manner as Victorian Police in the recent
debacle.

A health expert has sparked debate after floating a radical plan for young people to be given priority access to a coronavirus vaccine ahead of the elderly.

World Health Organization advisor Professor Mary Louise McLaws said vulnerable people should wait because younger Australians are more likely to catch the disease.

“The 20 to 39-year-olds are only 29 per cent of our demography and yet they have 40 per cent of the cases,” she explained on Sunrise.

McLaws said young people are “highly socially connected” and are more likely to be under-employed or work multiple jobs, “so they go to many different employment areas”.

“It’s a really good opportunity to protect the elderly by protecting 20-39 year olds,” she said.

McLaws’ plan is at odds with the Australian Federal Government’s approach.

Health Minister Greg hunt has indicated that frontline health workers and older members of the community would be given the jab first, when a safe and effective drug is available.

This is because data shows that nearly all COVID-19 fatalities occur in the 65-and-over age group.
