Yes, it is sensible to take the best of whatever anyone offers.
So, sprint... you enjoy the fruits of socialist constructs, yet hang shit on left-wing that made those 'fruits' possible... What's that about?
He enjoys the fruits that the right have stopped the left stealing from us lol
Well, given the conservatives have destroyed free market capitalism with there neo-liberalism bullshit...
And given that neo-liberalism, contrary to there claims, resulted in more govt debt, which the citizens must account for...
And given that retirees savings have been decimated as a consequence...

I would argue that he deserves what little compensation is afforded him.

Socialism and Capitalism are extreme opposites. In their purest forms, neither will work. Pure socialism will lead to laziness and poverty for everyone like Venezuela. Pure capitalism will result in greed in some and neglect of others. Everything we've ever seen in government is a blend of the 2.

My country's founders were very careful to limit the powers of our federal government, but over the last 100-150 years our federal government has been gradually centralizing power under the "general welfare" clause of the preamble to our Constitution. Some federal government is necessary to enforce national borders, conduct trade negotiations, and settle disputes between the states. States enforce laws, build roads, and provide emergency services. All of these services are a form of socialism as they are intended for the benefit of all of society.

Now we have never ending property taxes, even after our property is paid for. Our paychecks are monitored and taxed. We'll never get what we have paid in retirement to our government and we definitely won't see any interest on our investment. We are forced to pay into a retirement fund for everyone and the government has raided that fund to buy more power over us. They are trying to force us into socialized medicine that we cannot afford as long as they are giving this health care to anybody able to sneak into our country or everyone here too lazy to earn a living. They use tax policies to control our behavior. They have used federal money to gain control of the curriculum of our schools. They are indoctrinating our children to minimize the importance of the traditional family and pushing "alternate lifestyles" as normal. Morality has become relative and flexible. The government is trying to take our kids from us to serve them and our elderly are depending on the government more and more. I see more government as increased socialism and that government is breaking up the traditional family which cared for the weak and elderly before.

Capitalism has it's pitfalls, but after our basic systems are funded, it works pretty well. People learn the benefit of labor when are allowed to keep their earnings. Making wise decisions and family choices mean everything. Some people will always need government assistance, but this should be kept at a minimum and never benefit the lazy. Able bodied people would be more likely to work if they had to beg to eat. That's the dark side of capitalism, but it's not always a bad thing. People should be able to benefit from their labor and be responsible for their decisions. Otherwise the lazy will bleed everyone dry. Families have always taken care of their own in capitalist societies. Charity picks up the slack for most who fall through the cracks.

All that proves was that I am polite enough to ask you to explain your nebulous comment with a context.
But you didn't, possibly because you can't!

Capitalism, from its earliest expressions, has been a social and economic mode of living; born from the ideas of personal responsibility and the Protestant work ethic. While I do not consider myself to be either a Capitalist or a Neoliberalist, it is worth noting that in and of itself Capitalism is not necessarily a bad thing. To some degree people should be socially and economically free to pursue their own interests, even their commercial and financial interests. Essentially this is what Capitalism is all about, affording people the freedom to trade and accumulate wealth within the wider restrictions of a state wherein regulations limit the damage that can be done by Capitalistic ambition and greed.

Neoliberalism, on the other hand, as a political development of Capitalism, is a political and economic ideology that seeks to maximise the freedom of the market by removing all barriers to the private accumulation of wealth. In so doing it becomes a power over and above the state directed to the ends of profit without government interference. It is not so much the case that Neoliberalism is against regulation as it is against regulation over which it has no control. The ruling ethic of Capitalism is prudence which leads to wealth, whereas the ethic of Neoliberalism is the accumulation of wealth for its own sake which leads to political power.

Capitalism is socioeconomic way of life. Neoliberalism is an politico-economic means of social control.

Seems to me that you are feeling the effects of Neoliberalism.
So much for your beloved freedoms. Say hello to authoritarian populism.

Neoliberalism caused the continuing demise of America.

The fundamental problem with Socialism is - where does the money come from to pay for all this free Welfare stuff ?

Norway has a huge income from oil exports and so they can afford to be all Welfarey.

Russia tried it once and gladly dumped it as a waste of time.

Greece is on its knees because of dabbling with the unaffordable Welfare stuff as it doesn't have a big income from exports.

What is needed is a huge income source such as mining exports to provide the money as Socialism encourages bludgers who won't work to boost the GDP.

Imagine where Australia would be without the iron ore and coal exports. Broke!!!!!
