Couples can seek a divorce after 12 months of separation under the Family Law Act.
BUT domestic violence is still a serious problem.
Simple solution....
Grant marriages for twelve months only...
If the marriage/union is unsuccessful after twelve months...dissolve it......
Human nature shows people stay together for various "reasons"
One of them is the mistaken belief that they have to stay together until
"death do us part"......wrong....
Another is because people have no-where to go......
Change the law...
12 month marriages...
If it doesnt work.....piss off........

Well, I dont think choices come into it.
The divorce rate in Australia is currently about 50%.
That doesnt include the marriages/relationships/couples who are in a union
which is failing miserably and they just stay together for one reason or another.
When mum and dad both have to work to survive, with rent of $400 pw or whatever,
and kids to support, and everything costing an arm and a leg, everything around
them is bound to crumble as things get harder and harder.
A percentage of human beings treat each other like shit....
People just cant live together and the men are always blamed.
The answer is not better choices.
The answer is just dont live together.....

Someone tell me that marriage is not an example of a hiding to nothing.
Throw in a sprinkle of poor guidance/parenting, poor attitudes and human greed and you
have a recipe for a twelve month marriage certificate.
Attitudes need to change.
We cant just create legislation which punishes someone after the event.
Cause and effect suggests in the current world, marriage doesnt work.
Dont punish people because of the problems marriage creates.
An example would be the legal driving age and drinking age in Australia.
If it was 21, imagine the difference......
We cant be too radical, now can we.....

A 12 month marriage is a disposable marriage. Just be careful who you choose. I met my wife through the mail. We had a common friend and Miss Texan To Be began writing me when I was in the military. We lived 800 km apart from the time we started writing until the day we married. (about 15 months) We've had difficulties, but we've been married almost 29 years. She came from a very conservative family with similar values and we were of the same religion. The first year was tough because she suddenly moved 800 km from home for the first time and she knew nobody but me. She learned to trust me and the rest is history. We still have all of our letters. Maybe someday we can publish a book, if they still exist in the future.
