Texas Hurricanes
We currently have 2 hurricanes approaching the Gulf of Mexico. Marco is supposed to make landfall near the Texas Louisiana border and will immediately followed by Laura crossing Marco's path near Beaumont, TX. Neither hurricane is supposed to be above a category 2, but both storms will go through Beaumont and that's a lot of rain. They could easily get .5 meters of rain within 3-4 days. Possibly much more. If I remember right, Harvey dumped over 1 meter (42 inches?). I left Houston on the day Harvey arrived and the whole city flooded. They had volunteers in Houston for a week with their bass boats helping police evacuate people.
I'm over 300 km away from the coast, so I'm looking forward to cooling rain showers.

I've been following Marco and Laura. I fear for the people in Louisiana. This is scary stuff.

Marco fizzled out but Laura looks to be packing a punch. I am worried for someone in Louisiana.

Re: Texas Hurricanes
If they are 80 km from the coast and not in a flood zone they'll be ok. Most of the Louisiana coast is swamp land and full of gators. The people living down there are tough as nails and serious outdoorsman. We call them "coon asses" and it has nothing to do with race. They are the people who took their boats to Houston to rescue city folk trapped in flood waters.

We are on the west side of Galveston bay about 24ft above sea level. Since Laura is tracking more to the east we should be fine. Lowes was prepared with literally hundreds of Generators and plastic gas cans, they probably sold everything. We will have a lot of work to do when this is over.

Be careful down there. I thought I heard that the storm was supposed to hit land at high tide and is now tracking to hit on the Texas side of the border by 15-20 miles.Mortdooley wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 9:15 amWe are on the west side of Galveston bay about 24ft above sea level. I hope you both will be ok. This is bad and landfall is still several hours away!

Thank you, but mortdooley is the only one involved with this storm. I'm not even getting rain most likely.
