Is sport overrated?

Junior sport has many positives.
I went through the junior sport merry go round as my sons grew up.
Junior sport is character building and children need sport to learn how to compete
in life...they need to understand and learn from winning and losing...
UNTIL the looney left comes in and takes competition out of sport and has everyone
who participates receiving an award for simply being there.
Australia had its day as a sporting nation many years ago.
I, like many enjoyed the football, cricket, tennis, Bathurst motor racing and many other
sports..
Today, professional sport has become boring and commercialised...
Sportsmen and sportswomen are placed on undeserved pedestals and treated like
role models.
They are not, and never were role models..
They were sporting stars to be idolised by the young...
Sporting prowess is something we have all attempted to achieve..
There is nothing sadder than watching a parent attempting to create a champion out of his/her
child, simply because he/she never was...
Ive seen it happen...
Professional sport is full of leeches and has beens who never worked an honest
day in their lives....
Children now have other things to do...
Professional Sport is dying....
Junior sport will always be an important part of a childs life....

Participation awards are pathetic. It may make the inadequate parent feel good but does nothing to teach the child about how to survive in the real world.

This led to putting a wig and some lipstick on the mentally challenged dolts and placing them in womens' sport so they may get their 'award' any way they can without effort.

The loony leftists ruined and totally broke the education system and now they are doing it in sport.

My brother got through college on a soccer scholarship. In high school, he was on a preolympic team for the US. The trip to Korea was canceled because of terrorism, but they went to East and West Germany in 1988. So my brother got to go behind the iron curtain. Also in high school, he played club soccer and was on several select teams. He was able to network and make important friendships that lead to his soccer scholarship. During college, he also played a little semi-pro soccer. He graduated college in 1992 with a double major in Business and Education when he was 21. He has taught economics and business software classes in our old high school for almost 30 years. My point is that my brother used sports to get his education and start his career.

My view is -
I dislike the use of the word 'Sport'. It is used falsely, meaninglessly.
Sport has an archaic zero sum game outcome.

One definition of a 'Sport' is something that caveman used to do to survive.
Boxing, archery, swimming, running. Often solo simple adversarial events, with few rules and an obvious winner.


A 'Game', is something people invented when they had more pasttime. eg, rugby league, dressage, soccer, orienteering, crosswords, cards, bushwalking, surfing.
These are often more a team event, more social events. More complex with a less obvious winner.


Most activities people do are games.
