There's also this new idea that you can't even own a desk. You have to clean your desk off daily and rotate.

I honestly can't see how you can efficiently do your job that way.

I was offered a job like that a few years ago.
W
Hot desking they called it, no office, just a desk and your laptop.
They got all mean and upset when I laughed at them and said
"You have to be kidding, no office, I'm gone"
I have had mine own office for the last 30 years.
I couldn't go into a cubicle or work at a hot desk.

I picked my office where I work.
Close to engineering and the workshop floor.
The Windows look down into the workshop and I have a good sized meeting desk in my office for meetings.
The virus has now limited tgat to no more than 10.

In my previous job, I was first set up in the main office block, away from the shop floor.
Took me a year to get an office built above the workshop.

While working in China for 3 years, I had a huge office, again looking down into the workshop.
I liked that office, the tea lady was cute and came around with tea and bikkies 4 or 5 times a day.
I also had cameras set up in the test track to keep an eye on them testing machines.
Not one injury while I was there and production was 34% higher than with my predecessor.

China was great, but the missus couldn't handle the pollution.
So when I was offered a full time job, I had to turn it down.
Such is life.

Damn director wouldn't accept my resignation.

He wants me to think it over, over the weekend.

I stated I had thought long and hard and still will be leaving in 4 weeks max.

He is in denial.

4 weeks to go......yay.
:thumb
I would have thought that providing you met the obligations of your employment contract
(whatever they may be) and you have given sufficient notice, your employer has no legal
right to refuse your resignation.......
Good luck with your retirement....
Oh, he can't stop me, but he is playing on my conscience.

He thinks I should stay to fix up everything for him, but I'm not responsible for other people's stupidity.

4 weeks, then I will be retired
5 years before the grubberment deemed me eligable, f#$k am.

' ....... He thinks I should stay to fix up everything for him .......... '

That is available. At the right price. Offer him that, at that price and a bit more for your inconvenience.
Watch him immediately change his mind. You owe him nothing.
he is using you.
Been there, done that.

I did the contractor gig for a while.

The pay is good, but the work disheartening.

You fix it, go away and a few months later it's a mess again because people screw it all up.

You fix it again, train everybody, and then 6 months later new staff have screwed it up again.

Nah, I'm happy to just leave and retire.

I have been offered a part time job at an old mates businesses to train people.
I'm thinking about it, just as a hobby.

But I really just want to fish, go bushwalking, kayaking and enjoying life.

47 years and I'm done.
I see, thanks.

First offer is in, 20% increase.

Not enough to stay, rather retire.

I think 30% plus either a car or a fuel card might break my resolve.

But I still like retirement.

How about 30% increase in pay , a company car and a blonde secretary?

Retirement has an appeal :-)

I like what I do, like the customers, dislike the boss so I avoid him as much as possible.
If I could afford to retire, I'ld consider it

Methinks it's just hit home with the idiot "manager" who pushed me to the poi t I quit.

She has been asked to explain why she has been such a pain in the arse when I was a contributing worthwhile employee before she came along.
A director sent me a copy of the email, they didn't pull any punches.

I give her a month, perhaps two, and this will be another short stint for her.
So far, in six years of working, she has apparently had 6 jobs, some lasting less than 6 months.
All this was in the email.
I hope the director sends me a copy of her reply.

She has apparently accused me of being misogynistic.

But two of our directors and two other managers I work with a female and we have never had a problem.
In fact one of the directors is the one sending me the communications.

I was asked, unofficially, if I woukd be willing to stay if they got rid of her.
I stated, that's not how I work.
But I was offered the opportunity to come back part time once she is gone.

Could be a go, methinks.

Sounds like an awful lot of women in managerial roles you have there.

Various legislation in Australia has totally screwed the workplace.
Too many women in management roles
What happened to the days when everyone had a beer after work and the "boss"
became a co-drinker and workplace issues were sorted out at the bar....
Long gone....
Work place Id imagine these days is screwed...
All to appease women.....
After all...a woman's vote counts the same as a mans vote...…
BUT I digress.... :rofl

Its coming...the rest of the world versus islam....or is it here already...
