Is the Govt scared of a Chinese INVASION????

Government set to unveil $270b military defence plan to protect nation
By 9News Staff 2:53am Jul 1, 2020

The nation's military defence assets will soon be bolstered by long-range anti-ship missiles made in the United States as part of a $270 billion plan aimed at "protecting and building Australia's future".

9News understands a strategic review of the threats in Australia's geographic region and the federal government's Defence 2020 Force Structure Plan are set to be handed down on Wednesday.

The plan is expected to detail how Australia's defence force will use the huge amount of money over the coming decade to increase the country's military protection amid growing competition in the Indo-Pacific between the likes of the US and China.

Part of the spend will also focus on cyberspace and how Australia can protect itself from online threats.

The Coalition will look to put $1.3b towards disrupting offshore cybercrime, improving intelligence sharing between government and industry, building better technology and increasing the cyber warrior workforce by 500 members.

"To ensure that we've got the people, we've got the technology, we've got the research and we've got the platforms to be able to combat these very serious and growing threats," Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the huge spend will help Australia fight off potential threats in its region.

(9News) Defence Minister Linda Reynolds also said those threats extend far beyond theft and espionage to include aspects of cyber warfare that could disable Australia's electricity grids and air traffic control systems.

"There are many malicious cyber actors active globally and here in Australia," she said.
"This is part of a much larger investment in defence, cyber and information warfare – a $15b package."

It's about time too but 10 years may be too late.

This is an excellent idea as well.
The program includes major upgrades to the Tindal RAAF base in the Northern Territory, that the PM has previously described as “the sharp end of the spear” for Australian & US air operations in the Indo-Pacific.
Thoughts of reclaiming Darwin Port should also be on the agenda.

Good move in my opinion!

Lets try and emulate the Israel Defence Force, small country very strong nuclear armed military !

Make the chinks think twice!

China thinks we are a push over...dependent on other countries to rush to ouR AID..

the trouble with out defence spending is its always done all at once meaning everything we buy
goes out of date around the same time.......I think the drones are the most amazing thing to be invented in recent times

they can actually be used in War and in peace.....maybe thats what we need to strive for......

every part of our coastline should be monitored 24/7 air sea and land...by machines not humans....

We must be the only country in the world who doesn't police its borders. I know our coastline is vast but it's in our best interests to keep it monitored to keep the riff raff OUT! Drones would be a handy tool.

Some of these wouldn't go astray either. They've been using them on ISIS terrorists.

Apparently .. but that's fair enough.

The main problem with commies is they're not content to just have a country of their own, they've got to have everyone else's country too ... which I 'spoze is par for the course with idealistic parasites.

It's pretty annoying that we need (and we certainly do need) to devote so many resources just for a modicum of safety/security,
and it's probably too little too late.

I'm hoping the strategists advising our govt have realised we need to adopt single use self destructing drone swarm technology, so
the Chinese can't copy or reprogram it and send it back at us en masse.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

LOL and we'll get one by 2034 and maybe four by 2040? That's if we're lucky!
