Six markets have been shut down in Beijing and 11 residential districts forced into lockdown amid fears of a second wave after more than a month in the clear.
More than 50 people have tested positive in the Chinese capital with the source of the outbreak believed to be the Xinfadi wholesale food market.
Beijing officials said 45 of the infected people worked in the market, though they showed no symptoms.
That was in addition to seven earlier cases of people with symptoms, including six who had visited or worked at the market.
Overall, China has reported its biggest one-day jump in coronavirus cases in two months.
The nationwide total of 57 new confirmed coronavirus infections represents the highest daily number since April 13 and has heightened fears that a dreaded ‘second wave’ of is underway.
Beijing authorities, who had not seen a locally transmitted infection in more than 50 days, immediately reversed some recent moves to relax coronavirus restrictions.
The Beijing News newspaper said Communist Party members and volunteers were being organised to shop for food and other daily necessities for affected residents in the quarantine zone.

Sucks to be them. I'm not calloused against the suffering of the Chinese people, at least I wouldn't be if they would jerk a knot in the tails of their "leaders" to be responsible for their actions and not try to rape every foreign nation they think they can get away with. This includes being responsible about disease reporting and limiting the spreading of diseases they seem to always start. I hope countries all over the world restrict travel from China and minimize business dealings over this China Virus fiasco.

Incompetence of the Commies rides again ....
Rumour (in China) has it that CV19 was being worked on by the PRC's army virology dept and ..... ?
It now seems Wuhan flu did get out by accident ... it wasn't meant for us (rest of the world), it was meant to be released in Hong Kong.
Now the CCP it flat stick crushing the "bio-weapon" meme ... but it's too late.
A journalist (forget her name) recently published in the Australian has a heap of research/evidence/proof that China intends on using bio-warfare agents, and has been working on such a plan for over 20 years.
The only difference now is the Chinese admin denies any such agenda, but its officials were far more open about it up until only 5 years ago.

If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

The city’s response level was raised from two to three after officials warned overnight that the situation in the capital was “extremely severe”.
In just five days, a swathe of new infections have been reported from a cluster that has sparked a huge trace-and-test program.

Re: New VIRUS outbreak in China
Meanwhile back in Kweensland Anna Palahoweveritspelt has been coping flak for keeping Qld borders shut ... demanding that NSW & Vic get to zero cases/infections before removing the concrete barriers ... then back pedalled setting a date of July 10.
Well whaddaya know ? ... a new CV19 case in Bundaberg.
Turns out someone flew from Melbourne to stay at a hostel and work on a strawberry farm.
THE strawberry farm just out of Bundy is 'SSS Strawberries'.
It's owned by a Chinaman who openly refuses to employ non east Asians.
Anyone non east Asian looking for a quick $10K, go ask for a job at SSS Strawberries, get knocked back for being the wrong race and nationality, and put a claim in for racial discrimination.
