Kim Jong-un underwent heart surgery earlier this month and is recovering at his private villa, according to a South Korean report, with US media citing officials as saying the North Korean leader was in “grave danger” after the procedure.

If accurate, the surgery claim, made by the Daily NK website, would explain Kim’s absence from an event to mark the anniversary of the birth of his grandfather – and the country’s founder – Kim Il-sung.

Kim Jong-un underwent the procedure at a hospital in the county of Hyangsan on the country’s east coast on 12 April, according to the Seoul-based Daily NK, which is run mostly by North Korean defectors.

The 36-year-old was continuing to receive treatment at a villa at the Mount Kumgang resort, the website added.

The report cited unnamed sources, and there has been no official comment from North Korean state media. South Korea’s unification ministry, which handles cross-border issues, has declined to comment on the report.

CNN, citing a US official with direct knowledge of the matter, said Washington was monitoring intelligence that Kim was in “grave danger” following the surgery.

Hard to believe anyone in his superior physical shape would have health problems.

Gee, it would be terrible for the North Koreans if he didn't pull through, wouldn't it? How boring would their lives be without all those entertaining rocket launches into the Sea of Japan?

It's a shame we can't convince our illustrious leaders to over indulge to a massive extent.

It woukd save us a fortune in political pensions if they all started dropping off before they managed to access their multibillion dollar theft from the Australian people.

.............. Kim Jong Un has survived open heart surgery and is recovering well, after he intervened half way through the operation, according to North Korean state media.

The North Korean Fox News Network said the minor surgery (a triple by-pass) ran into troubles half way through, but sensing there was a problem, Kim Jong Un heroically woke himself up from his general anaesthetic, and then proceeded to perform open heart surgery on himself, thus saving his own life.

While not formally trained as a heart surgeon, the North Korean leader, is naturally gifted at everything, the news agency noted.

The North Korean leader is recuperating well, and a few hours after the surgery, he got up and ran in a marathon to commemorate war heroes. ..........
