Foreign takeovers and purchases of OZ

Post by Redneck » Mon Mar 30, 2020 10:02 am

I think Billy raised his concerns yesterday of foreign takeovers and land purchases in Australia while our economy was way down.

Think Sneaky Chinese

I hear this morning the government has indicated all of these purchases will now go before the Foreign Investment Review Board.

Finally they are ahead of the game.... Good !

This article may be worth a read, not sure of the veracity of the source!

I don't trust the Foreign Investment Review Board.

In NSW the Chinese have been allowed to buy up 100% of apartment blocks and there are tons of them going up weekly. Many have lain empty which has pushed rentals up. They have also been allowed to mass buy Sydney housing property which has pushed up housing prices to a ridiculous level. I hope the market crashes and they all crash and burn.

Australia's handling of foreign investment is apathetic and stupid. I hope this is the wake-up call we desperately needed especially with regard to our dependence on China for manufacturing. We make far better and safer products at home.

Their building supplies, electrical goods and solar panels etc are dangerous and crap and have killed people.

In the past I would agree!

I think this latest announcement from the government means the FIRB has been told to look closely at all future ones with the current economic climate in mind not just rubber stamp!

Anyway we shall see.

Yeah agree hope this is a wake up call!

If the Chinese start buying up our companies at rock bottom prices heads will roll but that's ONLY if we are made aware of it. It's time Australians became more vocal and less complacent.

Didn't Pauline say on the box the other nite that they had rubber stamps thousands of applications over the
last ten years and had only rejected five...…
Say a thousand per year for ten years...five rejected out of 10,000.....
Makes a mockery of the whole system...…...

An interesting idea. I do hope you're prepared to pay "fair compensation" as required under the Australian Constitution for goods which have been resumed of their ownership?

Leaving that aside for the moment, this is something I have been proposing for some time. I am glad that you can see there are alternatives to them "putting it into their hip pocket and taking it home," with them. Investors in Australia are seeking to make a profit from their investment. Funny how the "free marketers" forget that in their xenophobic rants... :roll
