Queensland Stupidity

Post by Black Orchid » Sat Mar 28, 2020 3:50 pm

I know there are posts about this elsewhere but it so STUPID it really deserves its own thread. QLD government is definitely a contender for the Darwin Awards.
Queensland council elections are being today despite outrage as COVID-19 continues to ravage Australia.

Queensland has closed its borders in a bid to stop the deadly virus and the government announced strict “social distancing” policies, which Queenslanders fear are being ignored at the voting booth.

Queensland’s polling booths opened at 8am today and will close at 6pm for local government elections and by-elections in the state electorates of Bundamba and Currumbin.

With phone lines overloaded and postal votes already closed, it appears many Queenslanders will have to vote in person or risk getting a $133.45 fine.

yes, I am a Queenslander. We voted by mail. Other than that, I would not have voted.

It is a sign of their ineptitude and inflated self esteem that:
i) We cannot vote by email.
ii) They think we should endanger ourselves so they can have cushy jobs.

I thought QLD was doing well and being sensible with their strict social distancing laws and closing the border ... then this! Touting strict social distancing laws then saying they will fine people who won't go out and vote in a crowd is not real smart.

I usually vote by mail but if they sent me a fine I would tell them where they can put it.

Fines for failing to vote can be contested on religious grounds....
A mate of mine was once fined...he filled in his stat dec stating he didn't vote on religious
grounds, quoting some obscure biblical text....his fine was cancelled....
He's never been inside a church in his life...... :rofl

How do they come at a $133.45 fine? I think not voting in the Federal election only sets you back $20.

Personally I doubt anyone would be fined.

I missed voting once and got a "please explain" letter, said I was overseas and didnt know about it!

No Fine!

we should DO THE RIGHT THING..

this lock down is a moment in time where we need to take a good look at ourselves..

like it or not we are lucky to have such things as ELECTIONS>. many countries dont have them....and would we like to live in those countries????? I doubt it..

lets be grateful instead of harping on the negatives....we dont all make the right calls at the right time after all...

I doubt very much they will fine anyone for not voting this time round.....unless its on automatic and they forget to turn it off...just kidding folks...
