kruddyy krudd McKruddkrudd
CUSTOMS has brought 63 asylum-seekers ashore in rough seas at Christmas Island, a day after clearing space on the island by sending 65 people to the mainland without visas.
Those who came ashore this morning are from a boat carrying 79 asylum-seekers and four crew intercepted near Ashmore Reef on Friday. The remaining passengers as well as people from two further boats are still on their way to the island.
There are now 2060 people in detention on the island, 20 more than official capacity.

Why am I wrong? Because I don't want Tony Cardboard reintroducing workchoices, taking us back 400 years to a master and slave society?
Read my signature below.
Why are you so rightarded? Will you admit you are wrong? Why are you so attached to Tony's asshole?

The timing (6 months) gives the motivation away: let them eat cake until I'm elected again.
This is really selling the electorate even shorter than it already is.

any comments 1/4 witted leftards ?
THE Rudd government has dropped its charade about the reasons for illegal boat arrivals and dumped its pre-election promises on processing asylum-seekers in a humane manner.
In the face of public concern, threats of more boats on the horizon and a souring debate on population and immigration, Labor has effectively introduced indefinite, mandatory detention for asylum-seekers from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, and ended offshore processing.
Yesterday's dramatic ministerial statements concede that: boat arrivals have far outstripped expectations; there is public concern about our borders being "out of control"; people-smugglers have been using a "guarantee" of residency in Australia as a selling point since the Rudd policy changes; Christmas Island is overflowing; and election promises on time limits for processing were unsustainable.
The policy shift also contains so many contradictions and flaws that it is clear it is a political fix. This is a populist response to a hugely successful populist campaign from Tony Abbott and opposition immigration spokesman Scott Morrison.
Rather than the election promise of cutting visa processing in detention to a maximum 90 days, with the aim of meeting that deadline on Christmas Island, the government has now ensured there will be a minimum of 90 days for Sri Lankans and 180 days for Afghans before the processing even begins.
The decision pre-empts a UN review of security and the refugee status for Sri Lankans, and concedes "pull factors" - reasons for asylum-seekers coming to Australia - are important and include the perception that boatpeople arriving at Christmas Island are virtually assured of a visa under the Rudd government's system. It has serious implications for security on Christmas Island, where there will now be two groups of asylum-seekers - those who were in custody being considered as refugees and those who arrive in the future and who will not be considered for at least three months.
The Rudd government has clearly decided that it is better in an election year to try to once again get as close to John Howard's policies as possible.
