Mask Recommendations

Post by Texan » Thu Feb 27, 2020 2:49 pm

I'm looking for a mask for pollution and virus protection also if possible. I think our standard is P95 and the European equivalent is P2. P99 is another option and I think it filters even more. I'm looking at masks with exhalation valves and replaceable filters. I like the masks with the strap that goes around the back of the neck to take stress off of the ears. The mask will have to be black to wear with a military uniform. I figure since most of you have been dealing with wild fires, you may have some good experience for me.

Here are my questions.

Which filter is best for viral protection, or will P95/P2 cover it?

What material should the mask be made of? Cotton, Nylon, Neoprene? It will be for all day, everyday use and I would like for the mask to last for at least a year. I assume that the cloth masks are washable? I suspect that the neoprene will be too hot for Summer use and cause skin irritation during prolonged use, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Do you have any links or recommendations? I would also like to buy a couple of extra replacement exhale valves. Spare filters and parts are a big plus.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help you but unless everyone uses the same high tech masks wouldn't it still be possible for one of them to bring the virus back to Base?

I certainly hope not and I hope your son will be fine. Being young and fit he should be.

The mask won't stop all viruses. There are plenty of other ways. This virus might not even be transferred by air. I'm just trying to help him however I can. He may not have access to everything I have here. He will need a good mask for pollution anyway.

I told him to stay on base and eat at the chow hall and to stay away from sushi and undercooked food. We'll send him treats. Everything we eat is pasteurized, homogenized, or cooked. Our healthcare is better and we are immunized for everything under the Sun. I don't think we'll be as susceptible in the US or any other industrialized nation.

No need for a mask, just stay 5 meters away from people and don't touch your face when you're out. Use hand sanitiser often.

Latest internet rumor - the US Government
namely the CDC is buying up all N95 face masks
and preventing the manufactuers from selling
them to retail outlets.

Only Govt workers such as hospital workers
and cops will get them - along with politicians.

We're expendable.
I wonder what is happening in Australia?

Just checked the local Chemist Warehouse -
they haven't been able to buy any N95 masks for over 3 weeks.

I just checked Chemist Warehouse and you can buy them online but have to pick up in store.

EDIT: If you click on pick up it tells you no stores have them.

My bet is that the Govt. has secretly requisitioned all of them.

Can you not order them online? Mine isn't here yet, but I did order it. When it gets here I'll make sure I can get filters to fit and send it to my son. They are mainly for the smog.

Prices have gone up since I ordered.
