The info Im seeking is as follows:
What part of the sale price of a second hand motor vehicle is the GST component.
Is it added to the profit on say a traded vehicle when it is offered for sale again, or is it added to the full sale price.
Ive been googling this for days for a mate.
Im also trying to discover if a car salesman gets paid his commission on the full price of the second hand
vehicle, or the price less the GST component, as the GST component is simply a tax, not profit.
I suppose I should just ring a car dealer...might not get very far..... :rofl
Anyone....

I called the Australian Theft Office...good name...
I received information which someone seemed to be reading from a cheat sheet that all second
hand motor vehicles attract GST on the full price quoted by dealers.
The advisor suggested it would be a good idea to check that the advertised price included
the GST and that it was not "added" later after negotiations were complete....
That wouldn't happen would it...
Anyway..it seems that cars when new attract a GST...then if they are traded in say two or three times
during their lifetime, they attract a GST two or three times...…when they are re-sold...
No wonder this country is going broke...…this is an obscene tax....
The man who invented a grubberment fee to be charged when property changed hands has a
lot to answer for... whilst the idea behind it has simply financed grubberments worldwide....
On another topic... I knew a mate once that was an absolutely brilliant negotiator.....
He had bought and sold houses, bought and sold motor vehicles...knew all the lurks
and perks that go along with buying and selling....he was brilliant...
Maybe theres a place in Australia for professional negotiators...
After all....how many of us haven't got the balls to haggle....we just give up.....
Just a thought... :yahoo

What bullshit. This is why selling privately, without the grubberment's grubby mits involved, is the way to go.

Yep, I agree.
Im just waiting for the grubberment to put in place registration/CTP requirements for bicycles...
Then of course if you transferred ownership of a bicycle through a "bike shop dealer", the buyer would have to pay
GST on the full price and stamp duty on the transfer of the registration.
Could open up quite a market...….(1.2 million pushies sold in Australia in 2017)
With all the interest in cycling these days and the plethora of bicycles on the open roads,
its only a matter of time...
AND if cyclists are injured in an accident... as they can be...well, the mind boggles...
AND try to buy a decent pushie these days...they aren't cheap...
OF course, if someone loses his license for drink driving, then I guess a method of transport
would be.....a pushie….assuming his work wasn't too far from home....
Actually if I was still in the workforce and I didn't work too far from home, Id probably
ride a pushie to work...just for the exercise.....
Then again.......maybe I wouldn't.... :rofl
