Mr Morrison said the government was considering a way to name and shame states that don’t complete required hazard reduction burns.

He flagged new national standards for meeting hazard reduction targets, along with a review of land-clearing laws, native vegetation rules and allowing grazing in national parks.

“We report all the time on what our emissions reductions are, but across the country there is not a national system of reporting to track how hazard reduction is progressing,” he said.

“There’s been plenty of chat around emissions reduction and that’s fine, hazard reduction though is the thing that is going to take a more practical effect on how safe people are in future fire seasons.”
I think his outline is sound so long as these 'reviews' don't just go on for years. Hazard reduction is going to save us not tossing millions at the Arab controlled UN whilst China is actually upping its emissions.

I hope they have experienced people doing the controlled burns and MONITOR them. When I lived up the coast on acres they would come out with their little flame throwing cans, set fire to everything in sight, sit down for a cuppa then just go home. Meanwhile winds would spring up and their fires would get out of control and those of us living there had to suffer the consequences.

Between that and dropping 1080 baits willy nilly from helicopters it was a nightmare.

That's the thing. These politicians are great at 'talking'. Taking action is a very different story.

All pollies ever do is talk, they like to hear the sound of their own voices. Rather like some posters around here and elsewhere.

Read an op-ed in the Australian recently (forget if it was Caroline Overington or Jennifer Oreil) on the bushfire blame game that stated that according to the CSIRO expert on the matter Australia's bushfire fuel load is currently 10 times what it was before English occupation.

I've had my block burnt out by bushfire numerous times (biggest ones in 1996 and 2011)
The 1996 one was because a neighbour (Custard Guts) was refuelling a bore pump while it was still running, a spark jumped from the motor to the fuel drum, which he tossed in panic and set the long grass and whole valley alight.
The 2011 one was deliberately lit about 10km to my south by Qld Forestries and took about a week to arrive.

A week before Christmas 2015 the local fire warden's son lit his lease up. I was working on a bull dozer further up the valley and watched it creeping east toward my place for 5 days. So 2 nights in a row I lit up at midnight till 4 in the morning burning a fire break from the road to the north, along my drive way near my western boundary, and a slashed strip about 2/3rs toward back of the block to a battle axe block access track along my eastern boundary to prevent fire entry from the south.

Unbeknown to me a neighbour (I dubbed "Fusswit") had complained to police.
Couple of months later the Stock Squad rolled in with a warrant for a dope crop that didn't exist (due to false report by Custard Guts).
No dope, no worries. The junior cop says "We'll there's this matter of a fire at Christmas".
I explained the fire warden's son had lit up big time and every time his fires get in I lose fruit trees, so took preventative measures.
They were OK with that.
Then busted me for hunting feral pigs in a National Park that didn't have pigs when it was State forest a few years earlier.

Now I use goats to keep the fuel load down and when need be slash and burn despite the fire chief across the road's threats.

Just read in today's Australian 3 Americans over here flying a water bomber crashed and burned ... RIP true heros.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

It's very tempting to just post "You idiot" .. but I'll give you the option of researching and correcting yourself.

I joined Qld Greens in 2003 -

#1 I was opposed top Howard's support of Bush junior's 2nd invasion of Iraq.
Not because I'm anti-war (I'm certainly not) but because I knew there was no legit reason for it.
I had read the 1998 CIA reports on Iraq's WMDs, which stated they had been obliterated in Desert Fox.

#2 The Greens propose decrimanalisation of cannabis, which I think should be legalised ... and anti-depressants criminalised.

#3 I hoped I might be able to moderate the Greens anti-gun agenda. Naïve I admit, but I tried.

#4 I had a brief affair with one of their candidates.

I quit the Greens in 2008 because it'd become obvious veg-Nazis and vegan fundamentalists had gained a critical mass by take over of Sunshine Coast branches enabling them to submit pro vegetarian motion to state council. I don't waste time fighting lost causes, I just wait for them to fail on their own lack of merit.

Actually Brainstorm, if you had an adequate literacy level you'd have worked out by now I'm probably the most right wing member of this forum since most of the lefties quit and went to Face-wank in the late 2000s.

As for your partisan cut n paste of Lib party promos, well like most of what BR posts I don't bother to read most of it.
Like reboot wrote - "You're boring" ... but I 'spoze you mean well.

Y'see I reckon the left of the Lib party are just Labor lite neo poofs, and the conservatives are too left wing too.
And just about everything the so called conservatives are trying to conserve was communist 50 years ago.

Anyway, I have no personal animosity toward you but I do think you are immature.

As I correctly said YOGI is an Australian HERO. He is so used to being knocked he can't believe he is getting praised.

He has recognized how vile and evil the Greenies have become and he has most wisely abandoned them especially after they burnt Australia to the ground.

More and more people will be abandoning the Greenies from now on. Except BRossy of course.

My apologies J, my mistake ... I misconstrued what you had written.
Although I would be reluctant to accept nomination as a hero.
