Democrats in the House of Representatives blocked a vote Tuesday to support the protesters in Iran who are demonstrating against the regime.

Consideration and a vote on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s resolution was blocked because Democrats advanced the previous question, by a vote of 226-191. The resolution would have condemned the Government of Iran for killing 1,500 Iranian citizens who were protesting their government, as well as condemned the Government of Iran for shooting down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, killing 176 people.

“What a disappointment —Democrats just blocked a vote on a resolution supporting the Iranian protestors. This is not the time for partisan politics. This should be a time for the US Congress to speak with one voice to condemn an Iranian regime that kills its own people,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a tweet.

I can't believe people can't see the irony in this? Many on the side of the democrats condemned the US for killing one man.. that Islamic scum Solemaini.. yet they won't support the condemnation of a Government that kills its own people if they don't comply with their theological beliefs and laws?

Iran says it has arrested the person who filmed the footage showing a Ukrainian passenger plane being shot down by a missile.

It is believed the person being detained will face charges related to national security.

Flight PS752 was brought down after it took off from Tehran on Wednesday last week, killing all 176 people on board.

Iran has said it was shot down by accident and announced the arrest of several people over the incident.

President Hassan Rouhani said his country's investigation would be overseen by a "special court".

"This will not be a regular and usual case. The whole world will be watching this court," he said in a speech.

Mr Rouhani also stressed that the "tragic event" should not be blamed on one individual.

I can believe it the democrats have always been on the side of the mullahs in Iran

We should not forget the role they played in creating the Islamic state by arming every jihadist in that area with their failed attempt at regime change in Syria. All the Jihadists they armed ending up fighting for the Islamic state.

There was no Islamic state in Libya until the democrats stuffed that up. Libya abandoned their WMD program when they saw what Bush did to Iraq. We can thank the democrats for the slave markets that returned.

The democrats will whinge about Soleimani yet say nothing of Obama ordering a drone strike on the Libyan leaders convoy that lead to his death.

Before the mullahs admitted to shooting down the plane they were arresting those who posted pics of crash site and remains of missile and charged them with espionage. Their fate is unknown.

Lots of holes in the story from the mullahs 2 missiles shot this plane down about a 30 second gap between them so it's bullshit they only had 10 seconds to decide.

Look at the direction plane was travelling it makes no sense to think it was a missile, where would the Americans have launched this missile from? also consider flight radar shows 5 planes took off before this one and flew the same route.

Plane was going too slow to be a missile or fighter/bomber from the US anyone who looked at flight radar data which is available online can see that.

The tweet from Rouhani about flight 655 and the commander who says he made several requests to ground all civilian planes which was denied from above leads me to think they shot it down deliberately and were going to blame the US for it.

There is no way the US would have launched missiles into Iran with all that civilian air traffic the Iranians were using these civilian planes as human shields.

Yes the plane was definitely going too slow to be a missile and was heading in the wrong direction as well.

They have also hit 2 air bases near Baghdad since Sunday. US and Australian troops were in the one they hit yesterday.

Playing with fire they are. On purpose.

The Iranians claimed it was a "cruise missile" which could have been launched from any direction and flew low and (relatively) slowly. I am not excusing their mistake in shooting down the airliner but it was understandable. As understandable as the US Navy's decision too shoot down Iran Air Flight 655.

Nothing like Flight 655.

In 1988 they were in the middle of a war and were actively engaged in combat at the time, Flight 655 was not on its normal route and took off half an hour late, the pilot was not warned of current hostilities, 2 US war ships had just been attacked killing 37 US sailors and the US made numerous attempts at contact/warn Flight 655 which were all ignored.

The Captain of the Vincennes was getting information that the aircraft was not responding to warnings and he was also incorrectly informed that it could be an Iranian F14.

Both tragic events but nowhere near the same for comparison.

If you want to believe those excuses, Black Orchid. And what happened to the Captain of the Vincennes? He was promoted and the US never apologised... Funny that, hey?

Of course we believe the "excuses" of the leader of the free world. The reasons for shooting down the Iranian airliner were reasonable and completely understandable. Unlike your Iranian mullah friends, the USA immediately admitted it was a mistake and paid restitution to the bereaved families. I don't know if your claim that the USA "never apologised" is true or not. But if they did not apologise then there would be acceptable reasons for that too. The Iranian pilots did not respond to repeated warnings that they would be shot down if they did not identify themselves and they must have turned off their IFF, because an AEGIS cruiser would have had IFF transmitter/receivers onboard to prevent such a thing from happening. And why apologise to an odious regime that does not even respect embassies and subjects diplomatic staff to mock executions?

But we all know how Brian Ross thinks. If it is white, it is never right. You will go into mental gymnastics making excuses for crazy mullahs because they don't have white skin, while always portraying the leader of the western world you despise but prefer to live in as the bad guy.

Not funny at all. It means that the Admirals who run the world's biggest and most efficient navy realised that what the captain did was correct by defending his ship and crew from what looked very much like a deliberate Iranian attack from one of the world's most odious and insane regimes.

The idiot Iranians shot down an airliner that had just taken off from their own international airport. That's what happens when you interbreed with your cousins for centuries and then give the most religiously crazy progeny command of a battery of SAM missiles.
