The Waterside Workers Union was run by the Communist Party of Australia from the 1920s until the 1960s, or maybe even until 1991 when it was dissolved.

Commie, Jim Healy, ran the Waterside Workers Union from the 1930s until 1961 then Tas Bulll kept the comrades alive and well until he switched from the Communist Party to the ALP. The Communist run Waterside Workers Union had its greatest political strength in Australia during the 1940s.

To think the Commies didn't interfere with our war effort is not only naive but completely lunatic.

I doubt a Nazi agent would get much thrift with a Communist controlled union.
I doubt anyone without autism/aspergers could be so naïve as to believe someone from a party with the term 'socialist' in its title (so even if in name only) let alone an intelligence operative would not be able to speak the right sub-culture lingo to pass themselves off as a card carrying comrade.

And something I forgot to mention last post ... aside from motivating Menzies to forward a 'Outlaw Communism in Australia referendum'.
After this episode where the Water side Workers Union caused a strike and prevented resupply of our troops in the Pacific, the govt of the day legislated the "Manpower Act". If you didn't go to work you went to gaol/jail.
My communist union rep brick layer blood grandfather told me about it. He was sent to Glen Innes to build coke ovens to make steel.

The unions actively worked against Australia's war effort, fact!
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

There was not, as far as I have been able to discover, anything called the "Manpower Act" during WWII. There was however a Manpower Directorate, which was a division of the Australian Government established in early 1942. The Manpower Directorate had, under it's regulations the following powers:
* Power to exempt a person from service or prohibit their enlistment
* Prevent employers from engaging labour not authorised by the directorate
* Restrict the right of employees to engage in the employment of their choice
* Prevent employees from leaving their employment
* Restrict the right of the employer to dismiss his employees
* Power to direct any person to leave one employment and engage in another
* And compel individuals to register and provide information about themselves.

It was established in early 1942. In June 1941, the Germans attacked the fUSSR. Before that, the Russians had been allied to the Germans. Moscow had instructed all it's foreign Communist Party members to work to prevent the Allied forces from being able to fight their war against the Axis force. That all fell by the wayside when Hitler's forces crossed the border into the Soviet Union. You, like many critics of the unions don't seem able to differentiate between the "before" and the "after" periods in how the Unions acted. Perhaps 'cause it doesn't suit your purposes or is it just plain ignorance on your part? :roll

Menzies attempt to outlaw the Communist Party of Australia occurred in 1949. WWII finished in 1945. His attempt was defeated in the High Court as being "unconstitutional". Menzies attempted to appeal to the people through a referendum to grant him the extraordinary power to ban organisations like the CPA. The Australian people turned their back on him. The Union Movement message that if the Government was granted that power, today it would be the CPA, tomorrow it would likely be the ALP and the next day? Ming was a bastard and he had his arse handed to him in that referendum. :thumb

Boing? Boing?

Your clear implication is that it is unfair to criticise the Australian unions when they were supporting both Hitler and Stalin who were allies, but okay to criticise them after these one socialist countries attacked it's socialist ally. With logic like that, no wonder you think that the Americans are mass murdering bastards while the Iranian mullahs are innocent, peace loving angels.

*SIGH* Wrong again, Bogan. Stop living in your fantasy world and actually live in reality for a change. You're free to criticise the wharfies for refusing to load stuff intended for the front, when it occurred, not when it didn't. In 1939-mid-1941, your criticisms would be justified. After mid-1941, those efforts by and large ceased, despite what your fantasies might tell you. They ceased for the reasons I have supplied - the Axis attacked the fUSSR, so Stalin told Commos worldwide that the Allies were not well, allies of the USSR and so their war fighting was good, not bad. :roll :roll

So, tell us, Bogan, do you still characterise the Wharfies as "fifth columnists" when they refused to load pig iron to Japan in 1940-41? Do you still charactise them as "fifth columinists" when they refused to load munitions for the Dutch in the Netherlands East Indies (Indonesia) during the civil war there? How about during the Vietnam War? Mmmm? :roll

BRossy lies again.

The Union Traitors stopped deliberately damaging war goods on the wharves destined for Australians fighting overseas when the USA forces approached them with guns drawn!!!!

And your evidence to support that statement is, what, exactly, Juliar? Mmmm? Or is this simply another piece of trolling from the Tories' paid shill? :roll :roll

Oh dear!!! Hard Core Greeny BRossy is stumped by someone who knows the FACTS and he is quick to try to deny it and attack his tormentor.

It is well known that the US forces on the wharf saw what the sick union traitors were doing as they deliberately dropped parts to damage them and the US forces approached them with guns drawn ready to mow them down as STINKING TRAITORS!!!!

The union traitors ran for their lives!!!!

The PROUD past of the UNIONS as TRAITORS!!!!

So, no effort to provide any verifiable evidence, Juliar? How unusual for you, hey? :? :?

The hard core indoctrinated Greeny BRossy is now trying to deny what everyone now knows the union traitors did on the water front when the deliberately damaged war equipment destined for Australians fighting overseas and had to be stopped by US forces with guns aimed and ready to fire to KILL THE UNION TRAITORS!!!!!!
