Re: Bushfires
How hypocritical is this....
The ABC last nite showed coverage of the NYE fireworks/celebrations and yet, on the lower
part of the screen they had a fire alert....
What message does this send....
Happy NYE everyone.....oh by the way if youre worried about the fires...heres an alert for you....
Read it...then go and enjoy yourselves down on the beach, fleeing from the fires...
Hope youre ok and your house isn't burnt to the ground.....
Sometimes humanity absolutely disgusts me...….

Someone lit up the bush across the road from me again yesterday. That's FOUR times they have done this in the past few weeks that i know about. They seem determined.
There is SO much uncleared leaf litter there it actually glows orangey/yellow in the haze.

Re: Bushfires
ABC 24 did a good coverage of the fires I thought...they were all over it.
then there was a power failure on the Sth Coast I think we have been well informed to be honest
cant be a lot of fun for the journos who are int the thick of it...
as for the fireworks at the end of the day that was up to the States,,
they reckon over a million turned out and while people attend they have no reason to stop them.

I am amazed how often we see film of a fire close to property and they have trees still standing within meters ..
I believe we need to flatten as many trees as possible long before the fire reaches them....its the tops of the trees that explode..
now we have a major highway closed for a month because of falling trees?????... I know the Clyde isnt a place for bulldozers bowling down trees...
but on level areas like the Princes high ... why no?

Re: Bushfires
The point I am trying to make is regarding our system of values.
What does it tell our children when we (not me) are all out getting pissed and having a
great time celebrating a date on the calendar whilst human beings and animals are fleeing for
their lives whilst their homes and their habitat are being totally destroyed by bushfires.
My late father used a phrase from time to time which I feel is appropriate...
"Bugger you Jack...Im all right...."

I think in Sydneys case the amount of expenditure and preparation that had gone into it largely influenced the decision to go ahead.
Months of preparation and millions $$$ expenditure.
Not to mention all the visitors booked into hotels etc (Millions in tourism dollars)
I guess it was a very safe place away from fire areas so no fire risk involved
But I do agree it would have been better cancelled in the circumstances imo as well.
