Do you give money to the homeless ?

I give on average around 25 dollars a week to peeps I see begging, And tonight I gave one a fiver and two cans of Woody , My X hates it, To me it doesn't mater whether these people are genuinely homeless, But its patently obvious they are less fortunate than myself , and have no prob sharing a little wealth

I give money to the 'homeless' if I get a good feel about them and buskers and I donate lots of good stuff to charities where you can just call them to pick up or drop it off yourself.

I've stopped buying raffle tickets and/or donating money to charities where you have to give your name, address and email though because they then relentlessly hound you and that just turns me off.

Not one red cent.

I will buy them a meal.
I will buy them clothing if they are cold.
But I will not give them money to be wasted on grog.

I have offered meals to many.
With less than 1/2 of them taking up my offer.

I have however bought warm jackets on a couple of occasions as they needed some warmth.

For many "homeless" it is a way of life.
Many take home a reasonable income for a few hours begging..

I used to. About 15 years ago, I was checking into a hotel in El Paso, TX. I had just passed several "panhandlers" under the interstate highway at the stop light begging for loose change. Several of these people got in line behind me at the hotel counter. They were talking about their houses in a remote area a couple of hours away. As I walked back into the parking lot to park my car and get my luggage I came across their buddy. The trunk of his car was open and it was packed full of iced down beer. They had come to the city to have a keg party in hotels and raise money. I was done at that point. Panhandlers aren't shy about approaching you for money and they always have a canned speech about why they are in need. About once a year, local news reporters will follow a homeless person for a day and at the end of their day begging, the panhandler will get into his Mercedes and go home. Maybe they aren't representative of all homeless, but they ruined it for me.

Through my church, we sponsor an orphanage. We support a center for pregnant unwed mothers so that the babies aren't aborted and the mother can put her baby up for adoption if that's what they want. We've also sent members to South America to rebuild a church that was lost in a fire and other trips.

My boys and I have supported a small farm in Dallas. The farm is only 1 acre, but it's in an area of Dallas where there are no grocery stores. The homeless and needy help garden and get some of their food there. Most of the people in the area have to take a bus to get groceries. It is ran by a group of veterans.

I'm very quick to help people learn the value of work and to make sure that they have the skills to function as adults. I've taught basic car maintenance to many of my son's friends. If they are willing to work, I make sure they have every opportunity to do so and profit from it. I help people move when needed. I help my neighbors when I see a need and I look for those needs.

I have a soft spot in my heart for veterans, but too many are ruining it for me by finding old surplus military clothing and pretending to be veterans. They make it so that you can't trust anybody. I definitely don't give money to anybody if we are anywhere near a liquor store. I do keep activated charcoal handwarmers on hand to give to homeless when it's cold. They last for about 8 hours.

If someone is truly disabled, they are supported by my tax dollars. They will never be rich, but they won't go hungry. I pay about $25k/year in taxes and fees.(income tax, property tax, sales tax, etc......) I can't support my own family if I give much more to strangers. I have an obligation to be careful to make sure that I'm not being scammed when I do give. As a working man, I'm the goose that lays the golden egg.

our tax year doesnt finish until march ,My Year To Date: Gross $76,353.92 Tax $19,358.46, we pay $3500 land tax and 15% GST on all our purchases and services we use, Petrol is around $2,20 a liter of which 50% is tax, And if this Labour Gov gets in again the will put taxes up ,

Wow - I thought 10% was too much here in Australia -
but we also pay mega taxes here.
