Roxon horrified by aged care assaults

Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon says she is horrified by reports of an increase in assaults and sexual assaults in aged care nursing homes.

Fairfax newspapers say health department figures show assaults are up by 50 per cent and sexual assaults are up by 36 per cent.

Ms Roxon has told the ABC1's Insiders program the Government is working hard to protect people in aged care.

"I think this is a horrifying report," she said.

"We have been taking a lot of action in aged care."

But she accepted there was still more to be done to stop further assaults from happening ..
