Asian parents push their kids to study hard. A different "culture" to the Aussie way of life. We do want out kids to succeed but we don't stop them from having some "fun" on the way.
Most Aussie kids go to Uni these days with student loans. Back in the "old days" the only people who went to Uni were very bright kids who got a Scholarship, or those with rich parents.
I think that the education standard has gone down a lot. Whether it is because of the Teachers these days (many who cannot even spell) or the fact that they are pushed through their course, given a "pass" because it would look bad if they didn't, or what. In schools where every kid gets a prize for competing, can't upset those who didn't "win", what else do you expect?
