UK Election

Post by Black Orchid » Thu Nov 28, 2019 8:01 pm

Boris Johnson is on course for a comfortable majority, according to a polling model that accurately predicted the election outcome two years ago.

The Conservatives would win 359 seats, Labour 211, the SNP 43 and the Lib Dems 13 if the election were held today, according to a seat-by-seat analysis based on current polling by YouGov for The Times.

That result would give Mr Johnson a majority of 68 as he made gains at Labour’s expense, particularly in the Midlands and north of England. Jeremy Corbyn is on course to lose 51 constituencies and lead Labour to its second-worst post-war defeat, with Jeremy Corbyn’s total two above Michael Foot’s in 1983.

If the prime minister achieves this result he will have torn down the “red wall” of Labour seats from Great Grimsby to the Vale of Clwyd in a realignment of politics. His aide, Dominic Cummings, warned against complacency, writing in his blog: “Trust me, as someone who has worked on lots of campaigns, things are MUCH tighter than they seem and there is a very real possibility of a hung parliament.”

Go Boris and go Brexit.

What happens if, like downunder, the Polls get it wrong, Black Orchid?

What I find interesting is that Jeremy Corbyn's older brother is the doyen of the Climate Deniers!

Wonder how that plays out 'round the dinner table on Sundays?

Polls often get it wrong, Brian, and if they do get it wrong ... Boris loses. I am picking him to win a majority though.

I am picking Boris to win handsomely, because the working classes of the western world have begun waking up to the fact that the Socialist parties they preferred to traditionally vote for, have sold out the working class and are much more interested in perusing the Quixotic causes of the educated middle class. Hillary Clinton's "deplorables" statement was her complete undoing, and it displayed to working class Americans what contempt the leaders of the left wing Democrats had for their own traditional voters.

Nigel Farage has been campaigning heavily in the Northern English Labor strongholds and has been addressing huge meetings of people in every electorate. These are the same electorates who voted most heavily to leave the EU, but their own elected labor members are the very ones who refused to vote in parliament to satisfy their own electors wishes. Farage simply tells the assembled multitudes in every electorate how their sitting member sold them out by not voting for Brexit, and they can send a message to their member with their votes in the next election.

The peasants are revolting, Brian. The workers of the world are uniting, Brian. To oppose the policies of the educated middle virtue signalling middle class snobs and public "servants." They are looking for representatives who will look after their interests, instead of talking down to them and telling them how stupid and selfish they are, if they don't do what the out-of- touch leaders of the "workers" party order them to do.

I cant say I know a lot about UK politics but I cant understand why Labour hasnt given Corbyn the boot as leader as he doesnt seem a credible alternative PM.

I know polls arent worth a knob of goat shit but Labour under Corbyn dont appear to have a hope.

I gather the leader is chosen entirely by the party grass roots members but surely a special vote/challenge could have been undertaken if a suitable challenger was available.

I regard Boris as another Trump who I would rather not win but I guess he will romp it in.

Boris will win because unlike May he wants Brexit to happen .. and that's what the people voted for 3 years ago.

BR can contradict me with wanky complications all he likes, but the result will prove him wrong again.

Polls have now closed and a major UK Election exit poll has predicted a huge Conservative majority win with 368 seats.

The exit poll is paid for by the three key UK broadcasters, the BBC, ITV and Sky, and is usually pretty spot on - it accurately predicted the number of seats taken by the winning party in 2010 and was just three off in 2017.

In 2015 and 2017 it also predicted a shock Tory win and then hung parliament, stunning pundits who initially dismissed the poll findings.

326 seats are needed for a majority.

Not sure what point you are trying to make?

Lots of Pakis in the UK but what has that to do with Labour's leader?
