Not good

Post by Valkie » Sun Nov 10, 2019 5:17 pm

My son has just been evacuated from his home in Johns River

He worked hard to make that property his own, and now it could all go up in smoke.

We can't even get there to help him because the highway is blocked.

There is some words tgat the fire was deliberately lit.

Catch them and cook them alive on a big spit.
That will stop them from ever doing it again.

Sorry to hear that, Valkie. I hope your son, his family and his property will be untouched. I have been through 2 really bad ones myself so I know what it's like. Fingers crossed.

It will be interesting to see how many of these fires have been deliberately lit and if any have been deliberately lit I hope they find the culprits and throw the book at them even if they are brainless stupid kids. :mad

Got news this morning that he was allowed to go home.

He said the fire was still burning about 300 metres from his home, but he has kept a buffer zone around his home to prevent fires getting too close.

That still didn't stop ashes nearly taking the place,
Thank God for the fire fighters.
We still can't get through to him, might be several more days.
He said the some is terrible, but at least the worst is over, for now.

They can't actually pit the fire out.
It's too big, over too big an area.
There is too much fuel.

So they concentrate on saving property, lives, livestock and doing what they can.
In some cases, it just has to burn itself out.

Might have to head up to my son's place, when we can, and I'll set up a system on his roof to spray water over the property from his dam when a fire gets close.

Sorry to hear that but it looks like he'll be OK.

Yes that is good news but it would be crazy to be travelling tomorrow and would just place more of a burden on the under staffed volunteer fire fighters who have been tirelessly working for a week.

Your son is safe. Stay home!

I'm in the Gong for a couple of days.

The phones were down yesterday and this morning.
Finally got everything back.

The boy is happy to wait it out.
He said the kids were OK and the fires seemed to have burned out for the time being.

His property is still a tinderbox, so any ashes could send his forest up in smoke, and that's about 60% of his 100 acres.

But his buffer zone around the house saved it last time, so he should be OK for now.

Thanks for all your wishes and concern.
It has had my wife sleepless because she wanted to get the kids to our place for safety.
But you couldn't get through anyway, so its a moot point.

Be handing the fire fighters a big donation when they come around this year.
I don't think my usual $100.00 covers it.
Might have to add another 0 and take it to $1000.00
