“Black rhinos are listed as critically endangered with less than 5,500 remaining in the world. The African rhino is poached for its horns. Aside from being poached, rhinos are targeted by trophy hunters as a rare hunt.

One American trophy hunter, Lacy Harber, headed to Namibia to hunt and kill a black rhino. According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), “Two trophy hunting organizations, the Dallas Safari Club Foundation and Conservation Force, auctioned off the rhino hunt in December 2016 for $275,000. The auction was won by a Texas billionaire who hunted the animal on February 26, 2017, at the Veronica Game Lodge in Namibia. Conservation Force then filed the import permit application on April 12, 2017.”

Trump has just announced on Facebook:

President Donald J. Trump is helping the most vulnerable among us: foster children.

Approximately 443,000 children are in foster care nation wide, with over 100,000 awaiting adoption.

President Trump is reversing Obama limits on faith-based providers which excluded thousands of organisations and families from helping!

ooOOoo

This is a sensible, caring decision from Trump. If the US is anything like Australia, there is a massive shortage on homes for children in care. It was nuts of Obama to preclude those homes, merely because they were Christian. Well done, President Trump!

Yeah, right.

Last week, while the Department of Health and Human Services was rolling-back Obama administration protections for transgender people, it was reported that HHS is also preparing to issue a nationwide rule that would allow for discrimination against same-sex couples seeking to open their hearts and homes to children in the foster care system.

While we don’t yet know what form this rule will take, one thing is clear: It will be bad for the over 440,000 children in government care in need of loving families

It hasn't been passed yet so I won't jump the gun. It also has a 30 day comments period where comments are considered before it is passed. I will wait until I read the actual content before I pass judgment.

I would think this decision would open up more charities and families to adoption/fostering rather than less. Excluding faith based organisations would be more likely to limit placements than the other way around.

Just because you are gay or trans shouldn't make you a protected species in everything you wish to do. There are many organisations who do placements and each and every one of them should be looking at the suitability of those applying no matter what their sexual preference is.

If a gay couple is passed over in favour of a 'traditional' couple that isn't necessarily discrimination. It may simply be that the other couple is more suitable in any number of ways. Then again maybe the gay couple would be more suitable. It can work both ways.

What worries me the most are those who think gay couples should be first cab off the rank and entitled just because they are gay but, like I said, I will wait until I know more about it.

Jesus. We aren’t talking about entitlement. We’re talking about discrimination.

Interesting to find out just how right-wing this place is.

Why is it discrimination? Faith based organisations are not the only ones handling adoptions. It's like the wedding cake thing. If someone won't bake you cake you go elsewhere. Bringing back the faith based organisations is only opening up more placements to children and shouldn't this be about the children and not about your sexual preference?

What IS discrimination is excluding those who don't agree religiously with homosexuality. If gays wish to adopt they simply don't go to a faith based organisation to make the application for adoption. I don't understand why that is so complicated.

If you consider it discriminatory to exclude gays (by only a few organisations) then it is obviously more discriminatory to exclude faith based applicants from being able to participate period . Shouldn't they ALL have their rights? I just don't get your reasoning.

Why do you consider it right wing to try to be fair?

It should be about the children, yes. However, there is no real reason why Gay people should be barred from being foster parents, Black Orchid except prejudice against Gay people because they are well, Gay.

Children need loving parents. Gay people can love children just as well as straight people and no, they won't turn them Gay, either. Children deserve to fostered by people who are able to support them and who can provide a loving environment.

"Faith based" organisations can be good unfortunateley they can also be bad, showing the prejudices that religion displays towards Gay people, single parents, etc. They should not be allowed to control all foster placements.

Brian you are arguing about something I did not even say. Not even close! You built up a position I don't even hold and then tore it down. The only problem being it isn't my position to begin with.

Maybe you should try reading what I actually say instead of arguing your own misinterpretation of what you think I have said. It's extremely disingenuous.

No-one has said gays are going to be barred and no-one has said that faith based organisations will control all placements. Not the way I understand it anyway.

No soup for you.

Where did I suggest anything about your views on the topic except mentioning your name, Black Orchid?

Argued against the use of faith based organisations for fostering children.

Perhaps you need to read what I say?

OK let's try to get this straight. You mention me in an argument you are making about something that I didn't even say and which is irrelevant because it just isn't so.

Yet I talk to ALL here and you spend page upon page claiming that I wasn't talking to ALL and that I was actually sending a secret coded message that was meant only for you.

Gotcha! :b

Goodnight Brian I now have a headache!
