Great link - But I don't think you have to go all out for 3 to 6 months.Neferti~ wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 4:58 pmTravelling AROUND Australia means a lot of driving and very rough roads. Check this site out. You need to plan ahead for at least 3-6 MONTHS.

PS. I have not done it and have no desire to. Living "rough" for 3-6 months is definitely NOT me.![]()
Thanks mechanicThe Mechanic wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 3:30 pmTravelling Australia is a very individual process...
You have to find what YOU LIKE to do, to see and how you are going to do it.. (and the Mrs)
We have travelled all over Australia ...
Some trips by Motorcycle and camping in a tent 🏕
Other trips in a pop top caravan - some in our FULL SIZED caravan whereby i try to spend as much time as i can Free Camping..
I find Motels and Hotels too stuffy and restricting...
Caravan park to us are a much better option due to more room, Trees, Gardens, Lawns and you dont feel like you have to sit inside the entire time you are there... or just look into an ashfelt car park...
However... if you get up early to go have a shower in a van park.. at times you’ll encounter old folks taking a shit while you are trying to shower..![]()
But i digress...
I’ve travelled from Vic across the Nullarbor and around the bottom end of WA on a Solo Motorcycle Trip with Swag...
Around Tasmania on Motorcycle and lightweight tent... solo
Around NSW with the Mrs on a Motorcycle and Trailer.. .Lightweight 6 Man Ten
A Trip up through the Red Centre on our Goldwing and Trailer - Lightweight 6 Man Tent
Across the Nullarbor, up the Coast of WA and down the Red Centre with out Poptop Caravan..
Down to Tasmania on the Spirit of Tasmania ..... Full Sized Caravan
Queensland Trip.. Travelling up through NSW, Lightening Ridge, to Cains...
With the Full Sized Caravan we can go totally off Grid... it has shower, toilet, heating, cooking, fridge/freezer 3way, AC (240V), TV
Jayco caravans seem to tow very well... I’m an excellent driver and backer so towing anything doesn’t bother me.. once at a destination we can ditch the caravan and go exploring in our 4x4
Telstra is definitely the best for reception around Australia![]()
We are on Optus at the moment but if we were to do another trip around aust somewhere we’d get Telstra...
The Full sized caravans are better insulated ... so better on noise and heat/cold
But like i was saying up at the top..
What do you want to do?
How do you want to do it?
Trains, Planes
or Automobile

You could do smaller trips - say, just go up to Uluru and return - you could do that in a week or something like that.
Stop in at Coober Pedy, Woomera,
I'd like to go up to Birdsville for the Big Music Bash.
Not 100% sure what its called but its on around this time of year.
Yes, small trips would be easier and you can almost do those by train.Serial Brain 9 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 7:08 pmGreat link - But I don't think you have to go all out for 3 to 6 months.Neferti~ wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 4:58 pmTravelling AROUND Australia means a lot of driving and very rough roads.
