I have a friend who drove around Australia some years ago. As far as I recall he had a 4WD and one of those "pop-up" vans - plus WiFI as he emailed me and sent pictures. They (he and his wife) took about 3 months.

Perhaps you should join a FORUM about travelling around AUSTRALIA ... people have been doing it for years (my Uncle and Aunt did ... eons ago)....

Male your mind up! :D
Yes - very important - Phone Reception

Telstra is best for Travelling Australia.

Travelling forums are ok - but there's always someone there trying t BIG NOTE themselves and shooting other people down.

Clicky bunch.

Caravaners Forum, for instance.

Grey Nomad is another one - where everyone is trying to get you to sell your home and just live in your caravan etc.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

..................... every couple of months I see another overturned Caravan on the road. ..............

People can't set them up properly and don't have the right safety equipment on them - Levelers, Sway Control, the way that they are loaded, proper tow vehicle to weight of caravan etc.

a Motorhome would be a good option. .................

From my research a good caravan and good tow vehicle would be $100K+.
Complex to set up well. A handful to drive. Expensive holding costs, expensive running costs.
All up, consider it to weigh 5+ tons. Anything goes wrong on the road and you will be sweating.
The pivot point between the tow vehicle and caravan is an Achilles Heel.
Right Wing is the Natural Progression.

With caravans you'll be staying in a lot if caravan parks, which in my opinion are the pits.

Fat bogans wondering around and the dunnys in morning is a chorus of old men farting.

Give me a compact pop top van
and with the change I'll stay in a motel now and again.

Texas has a state park system. A park pass gives you free entry for a year to all 111 parks and costs about $70. If you want to rent a campsite with electrical and water hookups it's about $15-20 per night. You can enter the park for free and use their facilities. They have public restrooms and showers that are heated and air conditioned for the campers. They have dumpsters for garbage and pumping stations if you have a septic tank to vacate. Most state parks have hiking trails, no fishing license required in park, and the entries to the park are controlled 24/7, so crime inside the park is minimal. My favorite park is Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Canyon, TX. They host a play about the founding of Texas in an outdoor amphitheater beneath 100 meter cliffs in the bottom of the Palo Duro Canyon. You can go on group horseback rides and you can camp with your own horse in some parks. The 100m cliff is behind the crowd. Image

Do you have a national park system in Australia?

Travelling Australia is a very individual process...

You have to find what YOU LIKE to do, to see and how you are going to do it.. (and the Mrs  )

We have travelled all over Australia ...

Some trips by Motorcycle and camping in a tent 🏕

Other trips in a pop top caravan - some in our FULL SIZED caravan whereby i try to spend as much time as i can Free Camping..

I find Motels and Hotels too stuffy and restricting...

Caravan park to us are a much better option due to more room, Trees, Gardens, Lawns and you dont feel like you have to sit inside the entire time you are there... or just look into an ashfelt car park...

However... if you get up early to go have a shower in a van park.. at times you’ll encounter old folks taking a shit while you are trying to shower..

But i digress...

I’ve travelled from Vic across the Nullarbor and around the bottom end of WA on a Solo Motorcycle Trip with Swag...

Around Tasmania on Motorcycle and lightweight tent... solo

Around NSW with the Mrs on a Motorcycle and Trailer.. .Lightweight 6 Man Ten

A Trip up through the Red Centre on our Goldwing and Trailer - Lightweight 6 Man Tent

Across the Nullarbor, up the Coast of WA and down the Red Centre with out Poptop Caravan..

Down to Tasmania on the Spirit of Tasmania ..... Full Sized Caravan

Queensland Trip.. Travelling up through NSW, Lightening Ridge, to Cains...

With the Full Sized Caravan we can go totally off Grid... it has shower, toilet, heating, cooking, fridge/freezer 3way, AC (240V), TV

Jayco caravans seem to tow very well... I’m an excellent driver and backer so towing anything doesn’t bother me.. once at a destination we can ditch the caravan and go exploring in our 4x4

Telstra is definitely the best for reception around Australia 🇦🇺

We are on Optus at the moment but if we were to do another trip around aust somewhere we’d get Telstra...

The Full sized caravans are better insulated ... so better on noise and heat/cold

But like i was saying up at the top..

What do you want to do?

How do you want to do it?

Trains 🚂, Planes ✈️ or Automobile 🚗

That would do me in. I'm not in to communal showers where you have to wear thongs so you don't get yuckies :b

Well... if you go hardcore and live on the road for weeks on end you get the full “experience”

Smelly Grey Nomads...

Dodging smelly dead cattle, kangaroos and other dead things..

Dodging Wedge Tailed Eagles 🦅 who are sitting on some roadkill and don’t want to get off...
