John Denver Lyrics

Post by sprintcyclist » Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:02 pm

You fill up my senses like a night in a forest,
like the mountains in springtime,
like a walk in the rain, like a storm in the desert,
like a sleepy blue ocean.
Right Wing is the Natural Progression.

........ He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Coming home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door ............

............. Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake
Right Wing is the Natural Progression.

It’s amazing that someone so gentle and peaceful graduated from the same high school as Lee Harvey Oswald. Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth TX.

I think that one of the appeals of Country music is that CM musicians keep creating poetic ballads that people can sing along to, and which have lyrics people like because they can relate to them. They are far removed from the doo doo dah's, doowops and hypnotic chorus repeats of other pop music. The ballads tell a linear story without any need for a repeating chorus. The stories are almost always about the lives of ordinary working class people, be they truck drivers, housewives, or cowboys.

I remember when 'The Harper Valley PTA" came out and everybody loved it and everybody was singing the lyrics. Same with 'Six days on the Road and I'm Gonna Make it home Tonight." "The Carol County Accident" was pure poetry set to music, and a deeply moving morality tale.

John Denver wrote some lovely songs which people could relate to with simple lyrics that everybody could sing, or at least whistle and hum.

Interestingly, the chardonnay sucking educated elites despise Country Music because it is considered rural working class music which is beneath the dignity of sophisticated people like themselves.

One of the most satisfying times of my life was in northern Georgia where I saw the Blue Ridge Mountains. I thought “Wow! This is the closest I’ll ever get to John Denver”.

I love country music, (as opposed to country and western). It doesn’t mean I’m an idiot.
The better I get to know people, the more I find myself loving dogs.
