Murderers hidden in Nursing Homes

Post by Black Orchid » Mon Sep 02, 2019 7:36 pm

Carmel George, Belinda Trad, Jong Park were all brutally murdered, but it has been revealed their killers are now living among some of Sydney's most vulnerable residents.

An investigation by 7NEWS has discovered the murderers have been released from prison and sent to live at a dementia care facility at Waterfall, in Sydney's south.

Michael Goodridge, who murdered his carer in 2009 near Moss Vale station, was sentenced to 18 years jail and is now being cared for at Garrawarra Centre following a dementia diagnosis.

Killer Do Hyun Chong - who beat his co-worker to death - at a Wetherill Park factory suffered brain damage in a car accident.

He was jailed for up to 15 years and is now at the Garrawarra Centre.

Also living at Garrawarra is killer Frank Townsend - he murdered his partner Belinda Trad.

News about the murderers' new location has been met with shock and anger for the victims' families.

"They are putting dangerous members of the prison population into private accommodation," said victims advocate Howard Brown.

The sister of Carmel George, who was murdered by Goodridge, said in a statement to 7NEWS she feels "shaken and distraught" at the news.

"What is to stop him doing this again to someone else? Why isn't he in jail?"

Also at Garrawarra is Rugby League immortal - Johnny Raper.

His family were shocked when they heard Raper was living among murderers.

7NEWS initially raised the issue with the Corrections Minister, who passed the inquiry on to the Health Minister, who then passed it on the Mental Health Minister.

The discovery has raised the serious question of why these killers are not at Long Bay Jail - where there are two aged care facilities with patients supervised by nurses and prison guards.

But state ministers appeared to run for cover when probed about the relocation of the violent criminals.

The Health Minister then passed the buck to the Attorney General.

7NEWS then contacted the Corrections Department, then the Premier and eventually a statement was issued by the Health Department.

The Health Department insists residents at the home are not at risk.

"Inmates who are in the custody of Corrective Services NSW may become the subject of a Forensic Community Treatment Order (FCTO), which is a legal order made by the Mental Health Review Tribunal," a CSNSW spokeswoman said in a statement to 7NEWS.

An FCTO sets out the terms under which a person must accept medication and therapy, counselling, management, rehabilitation and other services.

"The inmates identified were under FCTOs and therefore no longer within the jurisdiction of Corrective Services NSW," the spokesperson said.

This is bizarre and all kinds of wrong. They are unsupervised and just because they may, or may not, have dementia does not make them any less dangerous.

Taxpayers forked out $457 million for disgraced Bupa nursing homes to care for 7400 elderly residents across the country last year, but it can be revealed one of them was found with maggots in his ear.

Bupa received the amount in government subsidies to run its 78 Australian aged care facilities, according to financial documents.

And despite increasing their number of beds by 22 to 7339, Australia’s largest for-profit healthcare provider cut spending on suppliers and employees by $24 million to $560 million over the last year.

Over the same period the UK-based health care provider generated $81.9 million in net cash flow from its aged care facilities alone, compared with $74.4 million in 2017.

Yesterday The Daily Telegraph revealed the global aged care giant had failed in 15 of its 30 NSW nursing homes for breaching basic care benchmarks over the last four years.

They include breaches for pain management, nutrition, cleanliness, infection control and resident dignity.

It comes as the family of cancer sufferer John Callaghan say they found him with maggots crawling in his ear at Bupa Tugun, on the Gold Coast.

The retired entrepreneur begged his family to take him home after two weeks at the home, complaining of inexperienced staff. He died ten days later at the nearby Hopewell Hospice.

“He wasn’t an easy man to look after, he was in great pain and was battling cancer in his ear, but when I came to visit him maggots were crawling out of his ears,” his widow Fay Callaghan, 83, said.

He wasn’t that aware of what was going on in the end but even he said ‘this is a terrible place it’s dreadful, they don’t look after you please get me out’.”

that makes me want to cry!

The elderly are treated very poorly here but I have also noticed that most of the 'carers' in nursing homes are foreign and perhaps the training where they come from isn't as tightly scrutinised here as it should be. Aged care nurses are listed on the 'skills' visa list which probably accounts for why we have so many in nursing homes. Many aren't even nurses though.

it costs a lot to employ trained staff in aged care..

my granddaughter used to work in that area no training whatever but she knew the rules and followed them
many didnt they have a lot of aids these days to help them with patients.. they really should work in pairs.
some that need 24/7 care can be a handful... we have to do better...

as we know prisoners get far better treatment.and food.

Apparently the nursing home where these murderers are housed, Garrawarra, is right next door to housing for victims of violent crime.

It's probably cheaper than jail, and these are old men with dementia.

Do the people looking after them know their history?
