Cheating is a big no no. I know I would never get past it.

My wife left today. She just arrived in Kansas and is probably holding our granddaughter about now. I have to stay home and work.

I'm a field engineer for a critical power service company. I fix Uninterruptible Power Supplies. I am dispatched from home and go to business sites to work on their equipment. My UPS' use large battery banks to keep server and computer rooms up during power outages until the generators can turn on. I would get stir crazy in an office every day.
What about you?

I am also a techo by trade, 36 years in Telecommunications exchanges, from the early days of relays and later to computerised digital , we had some gear on UPS but most of the gear was 50v fed from massive 50v 500AH battery banks and big 415v Diesel backup machines.

Many of my UPS have several 750kva modules paralleled. Each UPS has a 480VDC bus with 1000AH or bigger wet cell battery string. Most are only 100 kva with a string or two of 100AH batteries. They have a 3 phase input/output of 480VAC. 480/277VAC is the standard voltage here for 3 phase industrial power.Redneck wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 3:02 pmInteresting!Texan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 1:53 pmI'm a field engineer for a critical power service company. The tel com market has been shifting lately and we have been shifting with them. Many sites utilize their -48VDC plant and have inverters that feed off of the DC for their 3 phase AC loads. For 25 years, I've worked exclusively on UPS and AC Power Distribution Units. We've been branching out lately to service DC plants as well. Our dedicated DC plant techs are getting old and retiring, so we need to step up. They aren't that difficult, but it's a new field for me and communicating with all the different equipment in different formats is kind of overwhelming if you don't do it every day. I bug tech support or senior DC plant techs pretty often.

Correction, I just realised the Diesels were actually standby diesels that cut in on power failures, the No Breaks were UPS that fed off the 50v 500ah battery banksTexan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2019 3:17 pmMany of my UPS have several 750kva modules paralleled. Actually I should have added, I retired from that field over 20 years ago but have always had an interest in things electronic. I did do some years after that in the clerical field working for Government.
