Did I read that there was an "oil fire" in Texas? I used to write to a lady in Houston, TX and her husband had "property" somewhere in Texas with oil wells on it.
I haven’t heard of anything recently. Every once in a while, we’ll have a fire at a refinery or a chemical plant explosion.

I just finished working a week of night shifts in Austin. I work days locally next week. Then I do another week of nights. At least I won't be stuck out of town for a week.

My youngest starts his senior year of high school in another week. He's at the drive in movies with friends tonight. They have 4 screens with a double feature each night. They broadcast the audio on FM radio so you can play it from your car.

I guess that's the equivalent to our Year 12. Most of the drive-ins here have closed down. I think we have one left in Sydney and it's a shame. My youngest goes sometimes.

I have 5 days (out of 21) to go with this horrid awful treatment and I can't wait for it to end. My skin looked just fine before I started this but now I look like Hellboy. It brings out damage that you cannot see. Oh the joys of living in the Australian sun on the beach. Pppfffttt!

God awful stuff. This is what the treatment makes you look like ...

Our drive ins had all shut down until this one appeared. They are such a novelty that they seem to do pretty good business.

Sorry you are going through an ordeal.

Dunno about the US, but drive in movie theatres take up a lot of land. They got sold off for residential housing and the owners made a packet.

Land is much cheaper here from what I can tell. 16 years ago, I bought a 4 bedroom house on 1 acre for $155k. I’m 30 minutes from downtown Dallas.

Yeah I think cost of living is cheaper in the States. I don’t know why.

How do we have more land? We have 10 times the population of Australia and maybe 30% more land? I guess we do have more usable land away from the coast. We have good water and forests and energy production in the deserts. A lot of people avoid the big cities here. Life is less hectic and people are nicer in the country.

I think tax rates contribute to inflation. High tax states have higher prices for everything, especially real estate. A house like my house 30 minutes outside of San Francisco, CA would cost $1M. It appraises here for around $290k right now. Prices have been going up because of all of the Californians fleeing high taxes and buying real estate here.
