I’ve shot dozens of pistols, but never in the military. I was trained to shoot and clean an M-16 every year for 10 years, but my job in aircraft maintenance didn’t require carrying a gun. Being in the military doesn’t make you an expert on all things that go boom. Most cops have more real world experience with a handgun.

Yet we are continually told by some gun nuts that cops have less experience, Tex. Who are we to believe?

Personally, I've fired SMGs (Owen Machine Carbine, SMG F1 9mm), Rifles (L1a1, M16, F88), LMGs (Bren, Minimi), GPMGs (M60, L7) and Mortars (81mm), Recoilless Rifles (L35a1) and Rocket Launchers (M72) and finally pistols (L91a 9mm). I rarely speak about other weapons, except in general terms. I was required to carry a rifle or an SMG while on exercise - twice a year for up to 6 weeks. I've fired the others on ranges. I don't claim to be an expert, just more expert than most people.

I was referring to frequent use in making arrests and dealing with enemies (criminals). I know cops who barely qualify with a pistol and I know cops who do competition shooting. Cops are constantly on “deployment “, even if the ordinance is limited to pistol, shotgun, and rifle.

I think you mean, "ordnance", not "ordinance" (which is church law). That aside, Cops are constantly using their firearms in the US perhaps but downunder, they rarely have to "draw" their firearms.
